Strange Oil Pressure Reading
 

Hi guys, recently my car has had some VERY strange oil readings (stock gauge). I have a bad seal in the turbos, which spit oil (I have oil all over the engine bay). I'm currently looking fora new turbo, and I have a few questions about the oil pressure:

1) I have notice that after warm up, at idle the oil pressure drops to 0. If I rev up the motor to around 3K, the oil pressure jumps back up to ~30.
2) Sometimes while driving, I see the oil pressure sit around 10 PSI and maybe move up to 15 PSI.

Can a bad turbo be causing low oil pressure? I read about the sensor going bad on FDs pretty often which causes strange oil pressure readings.

I check my dip stick once a week, and it has been full since the oil change 2 weeks ago.

Any ideas / suggestions?

It's gonna be your oil pressure sending unit. Had the same issue and now it read perfectly fine.

It's not the turbos causing this? Also does that mean my engine is not getting the necessary amount of oil, or is it jus the unit that reads wrong? This is my dd, so I'm wondering if I could drive it around like this until I replace the unit.

Should be just the gauge rwading incorrectly caused by faulty sending unit, if you need one, pm me,.

Its probably the wire that comes off the sender unit.
Mine has fell off a couple of times, and also got corroded preventing proper readings or giving erratic readings.
as long as your oil LEVEL is ok, you are probably OK to drive it

Mine does the same thing at low RPM's cleaning the contacts on the oil pressure sender right under the oil filter area seemed to help a bit.

It's the sensor. There's absolutely nothing that the turbos can do that will mess up oil pressure, save for having them physically come apart and dump oil out the exhaust.

Senders are good for around 80,000 miles or so and nearly every FD out there has a bad sender. They're not too pricey and they're easy to install, get you a new one and you're done.

The FD has a very robust oiling system, the only way it can have major oil pressure issues are if you didn't assemble the engine right on a rebuild or the engine is having major internal failures that would result it in grinding to a stop.
