stock temprature gauge
 

i need to know whats the problem with the stock temprature gauge.... theres so many issues,,,, mine seems to work fine but im told its not linear,,,
so what does this mean (i do understand not linear)

ok so is it like this,,,,first half of the gauge is like
10 - 30 deg and the last half is like 30 - 110 deg,,,

if so,,,then why does this cause problems...
some one explain it to me.:D

all I know ( and heard) is that if your temp reads 'HOT' its already too late. So I think you either need to recalibrate it or maybe buy an aftermarket one

It means that the needle would very quickly rise in the first half of the display (up to around operating temprature). But will move very slowly in the upper half, so by the time you see it move into the upper half (temp too high) it would be a very high temperature already and thus reducing the time you have to react to overheating. As a result, engine failiure.

Ok, so when the water temp gauge is replaced.............what is the temperature is "too high"? Or what temp should you not want to go over?


(Also oil temp if anyone knows what is too high?)

Are you talking about the stock gauge? If so, anything over the middle is too high.

I believe the gauge reads...first half linear IE each degree is consistent movement of the needle...i think between like absolute zero (if that were possible) and 50 C, then once the needle is in the middle of the gauge it will not move for like 100 C and will start to move again (go into upper half) at say 140-150 C which for water temp is obviously way high. under boost your temps can raise slowly...I see up to about a 20 C difference if I am into boost for a little while. Mazda knew this and figured customers would constantly think thier cars were overheating and thus did this kind of gauge...as kind of a dummy gauge so people would think thier cars were running a very stable temp.
Thats was always my take on it....

I have aftermarket gauges (Water temp and Oil temp). Both gauges range from 100*- 250*.

What is dangerous temps for both water and oil temps? I usually kick the radiator fan on if the water temp get's near 195*. What about oil temp though? What is dangerous?

Don't know about anyone else, but I start freaking out if I ever see my water temp gauge above 100C. I don't think it's dangerous until you start seeing 120+C, but I like being safe :)
