Well I was reading an old issue of "Sport Compact Car'' and they had an article featured on se7ens... in this article they said someting that really confused me. They kept on saying that RX7s are one of the most exciting cars to dive and on most car enthusiasts “cars I would love to own” ( or even drive ) list. –This all I understand because Se7ens are the shit, but they said,

I understand that they were forced from Americas market, but I don’t understand how a rotary engine “blows up” WTF? :wtf: It’s a rotor… there’s no pistons or rods to break. So how do these sweet machines blow and why?

The only thing I did hear is that the Apex seals blow..?.?.?..


thanks for the help...im looking to buy a Se7en when i get enough cash and find one...but untill im just trying to learn all I can about them before i get one.

Maybe just a bad choice of words - 3rd gen eng. cook, not blow and this is their problem, just bad eng. cooling don't you think?

Well blowing an apex seal is like blowing a piston ring. It means you have no compression on that chamber. But apex seals seal two chamber at one time, so blowing a seal is really like blowing 2 piston rings. The engine will run that way, but not well, and they won't make any power.

They blow up. All cars blow up. These more because people are ignorant when it comes to tuning a turbo charged rotary. They don't take the abuse that, let's say a Supra would.

They run hotter which leads to premature failure of all kinds of other shit under the hood.

They are really cars that you have to LOVE to own. Not just want one because they are rare, or you think they look cool.

fd ownership (done well) = labor of love. you have to like taking care of it or it will bite you in the wallet.

If you think these motors don't pop you have another thing comin. They overheat and they blow apex seals.

and i thought that obd II tougher emmisions, and very low sales caused it's demise.

I was under the impression that it's demise was caused by all the little problems adding up to rob Mazdas money through warranties, but not nessaccarily from strait up blowing motors. Also, they were pricey two door, impractical sports cars, which has always been a smaller market.
Don't buy a 3rd Gen. thinking it will be a reliable car. You WILL put money into it. Within my first two months of owning mine I had already dropped around $800 for it. But...I will tell anyone this, it's worth it all. Evan

Omg, turbo rotaries aren't known for their reliability?!? Learn something new everyday.

Sport compact car, put like 20,000+ hard track miles on their FD before the motor went...my personal car i wouldn't do that many hard miles in 5 years...no worries :)
