Stock ECU and emissions removal/simplified sequential
I’ve done a lot of searching and haven’t found a 100% definite answer, so here I am. I have a 93 touring, manual trans, and everything is stock aside from a 3” stainless downpipe, magnaflow cat, and tanabe cat-back. My question is: can I safely remove the ACV and air pump while retaining the stock ECU? If that will be too hard on the catted midpipe, can I leave the air pump and just delete the ACV? I know that I will need to use 1/2 watt 330 ohm resistors in the plugs for the solenoids that I remove (if I remove them). Any help is appreciated, and I apologize if this has been covered and I overlooked it. |
Nope. Big problem is the air pump injects air into the exhaust manifold at certain times. This air is seen by the stock O2 sensor and throws the readings off, so the ECU knows that when air pump air is injected into the manifold it needs to "fudge" the results from the sensor to compensate for the extra air.
That said, if you remove the air pump on a stock car the idle will be rough and on/off throttle will be rough. You can see for yourself, just unplug the electrical connector on the air pump and drive the car. Shortly after I got my car the air pump wiring shorted (it was damaged) and popped the air pump fuse. I thought the car was broken it drove and idled so bad. With a PowerFC you can turn off O2 feedback which totally eliminates this problem. Stock ECU is for a STOCK car. If you want to modify the car, you need an ECU. Dale |

You also do not need the resistors with the PFC.
