Stock airbox broken clip fix
 

The 3 plastic clips on the side of the stock airbox are notorious for breaking off. Mine all snapped sometime ago and I had rigged a couple different solutions but was never happy with them as they were all ugly. This one works perfectly, is indestrcutable, cheap and not ugly ;)

Go buy a couple of metal hanging clips for 1/2" steel conduit. They look like this and will cost nothing at the hardware store:

These clips are just the right size that they will squeeze the seam between the upper and lower halves of the box very tightly (I used two on the passenger side of the box; no need for more). Pick two convenient areas between the ribs on the box and push the clips on firmly with the screw holes sited on the lower half of the airbox. Mark the holes and drill through the box. I used short bolts with the heads inside the box, this leaves a stud sticking throught the outside. Slip the clips back on and tighten the nuts down. If you are not completely satisfied with how the clips rest on the box you can bend them slightly with pliers. I just can't get over how nice this works.

A tip to remember is that you never have to actually open the airbox unless you need to service the filter as you can remove the airbox intact from the car after removing all the hoses from it. When I need it out of the way to work on the car I never actually open, I just remove it.

Here's a shot of the 1/2" conduit clips installed. The only time the airbox must ever be opened is to service the filter. If you are merely removing the box to work on the car there is no need to open it, just remove the box as an assembly.

I drilled holes through the lower half box and inserted some small bolts from the inside. Be sure to keep the bolts in the lower half so that if they were to somehow come loose the air filter will keep them out of the turbos. The clips are then fastened on with nuts and hold the airbox firmly sealed. Bend the clips gently with pliers to make them fit as needed.

I have plenty of "Cheap Bastard Intake" customers that have stock air boxes. I bet most of them have broken clips, like mine. This looks like a really good fix.
