Steering wheel and hub suggestion for tall driver?
Hello all,
I have a 93 fd, stock steering wheel Im about 6 ft 1 with 200 pounds Very difficult to get in and drive Hence im looking for better steering wheel hub option.(or steering wheel options) Currently im looking at the Nardi deep corn 350mm with WorksBell standard hub. Ive read some tall owners will add quick release to extend the wheel. but sadly my country(HK) doesnt allow any type of quick release. So any spacer, hub suggesstion to enxtend the wheel from base? I did the math, offset for deep corn 350mm is about 53mm,with standard WB hub 75mm. Im getting ard 128mm from base, is that enough? Any better suggestion? |
I am similar in size to you. My car has a flat wheel (not deep/offset), a ~25mm spacer, WB hub, and a quick release. When wearing my work boots, my leg still hits the wheel transitioning from gas to brake or vice versa. I also have a bride seat sitting on the floor.
Is something like the WB tilt system illegal also? |

Is something like the WB tilt system illegal also? Tilt or quick release are all banned, hence the trouble. Police will tow any car with such system. Sadly our regulations are very strict. Im with stock seat now. I guess my,best bet would be 30mm spacer with deep corn, regular hub. Is spacer universal for jdm? Or Need to purchase from the same brand? |
I'm 6'6", you have some work to do :).
First off, the leather seats seem to sit higher than the cloth or R1 seats. I think they made them more cushy for "touring". Second, adjusting the clutch pedal can make a big difference. There is a rod going from the pedal into the master cylinder. If you push the pedal down by hand and listen to the transmission, a lot of times there'a a lot of dead space at the end of the pedal throw. You can adjust that rod so the clutch is fully disengaged (trans not spinning) but you can get about 1-2" out of the top of the pedal throw. That gives more leg room. It also depends on where your height is. I'm mainly legs - I wear a 37" inseam pant. Some people have more torso. Steering wheels can make a big difference in legroom. I have a Mom wheel with a regular hub (I think an HKB or something) with a spacer on it to bring it closer to me. The steering wheel has a flat bottom. But, I drove the car for years with the stock wheel. Dale |
