Starting Issues

So we've tried everything to get this thing to start normally. The car will start by wiring the starter solenoid directly to a 12v main, but won't start any other way. We've bypassed the security relay (H302) and the clutch switch. We have a strong 12v reading at the black/red wire on the harness by the main fuse panel next to the battery, but can't figure out why the car won't start. Any ideas???

I think there is a known workaround for some starter issues by adding a relay right before the starter. I think Banzai sells a kit for it. It sounds like that might be your issue since straight 12v to the solenoid works.

I have one installed...nothing happens when I turn the key, I don't get the click, click.

If you did the starter relay mod correctly then your car will start everytime with the key normally. My car won't start at all without it. Not even a click. In your case since it doesn't then you have a problem with your actual ignition or you don't have it installed correctly.

I never made the effort to find out why my car is like this and I really don't care to find out the root problem. Work your way back from the ignition to find where your problem is

You need to get a multimeter and trace down where the 12v stops on the way to the starter. Follow the wiring diagram in the shop manual, it should go from the ignition switch to the clutch switch and starter relay and finally down to the starter.

Possible that it could be the ignition switch as well.

Thanks everyone. Just need to trace back to the starter from the main electrical harness. We have a good switched 12v source under the hood, just need to figure out why it’s not getting down the the starter solenoid.
