Starting Enigne Without Intake Piping

I was asked a question and didnt no the ansewer so i will ask it on the fourm

Is it possible to start (Not Drive) a FD without the Intake pipeing on the car (Intercooler Piping)

Not my Question so done Flame me

BoostFrenzy 09-06-05 06:26 AM

i would assume so? isn't any sensors between the intake and the tbody (speed density/map)

are you talking about the intake or the ic piping, they are 2 diff things. The intake is what comes off the turbo with the filters, and the ic pipes are the rest. If you are asking if you can start the car without the intake, then i would say yes.
If your askin if you can start it w/o the ic pipes, i would say no b/c if would be a huge leak and there would be air to get into the motor to stay running.

As long as the throttle body is still on the car will run, as if he was moving around from maint. bay to another...

It just will run weird, like a V6 mustang. I blew open one of my rubber intercooler pipes (a good 5" hole) and it just ran slow until I found it. Actually got beat by my friends honda civic w/B20 that day!

Yep, it's ok to test run without the pipes. Just be real sure you don't get anything sucked in.

don't use a t-shirt as a filter!

^ wasnt it a sock that some guy on the forum used.....didnt work too well as all his shit got fuggged up

It will run fine, just don't suck anything in. You won't be able to boost, but it will run like normal otherwise.

LMFAO, I remember that.

Actually I shouldn't be laughing. I use paper towels as plugs, and once I almost assembled the car with the paper towels in it.

Yeah, don't get any debris, nuts, bolts, or any other crap sucked in. Big stuff should get stopped by the throttle body as long as you dont open the car up though. And hopefully you noticed something's wrong at that point.

I also drove without boost for a few miles till i got home...I was merging into traffic gettin on the parkway and all of a sudden i'm n/a. I had left one of my couplings loose and it popped off under boost. It feels like a 18 wheeler, lol you hear the turbo spooling but youre going nowhere!!!

Heh, ive done that before. I've blown off the blow off valve and the main intercooler piping before. When I blew off the intercooler piping, the car went rich all of a sudden and backfired super loud.

kraked 09-07-05 12:29 AM

LOL blow off the blow off valve!

Use the mesh screen from the windows that prevent bugs from coming into your home if you need to drive without your IC piping connected for whatever reason..
