Starters?

Does anyone know if mazda used the same starter that is on a manual transmission FD on any other cars/trucks? I can get mine rebuilt locally for like $100, and a completely new one is like $200.... So if I can get a good one out of a junk yard for $50 I would like that alot better :D

So does anyone know of the same starter on a different car? I can't image they used a different one on every car.

I'm not sure, but I agree that it must be on some other cars. Maybe even other manufacturers used it because I think it is just a generic mitsu starter... could be wrong though

To share a starter between cars the cars would have to have at least the same transmission and flywheel size and number of cogs, and also the same torque requirements for the starter. In other, words sharing is unlikely.

Rebuilt starters can be had for $130 or so online. Used ones are about $50 in the classifieds section.

Well I acctually just ended up using the "housing" that bolts to the bell housing of the transmission (that whole assembly that holds the bendix gear and what not...), and used the acctual "motor" section off of an FC starter I had laying around, and also used the FC silinoid. The starter motor is also larger??? (longer)

But it works great!

Ohhh and on a side note, if your starter isn't working, beating it with a hammer, might cause it to work on occasion.... but will only break the magnets inside :D And makes you look retarded when you have to crawl under a $12,000 car in a parkinglot with a hammer, to beat the shit out of something to get it to work
