Hi guys,

Ebay intercoolers are not going to perform as good as their namebrand counterparts. The reason being is that company's like greddy and HKS put alot of R&D into their products along with track time and testing.

That intercooler may or may not perform well depending on the build quality of the core and which ever intercooler it was "knocked off" of.

My guess is it will perform better then stock(all most anything will). But dont expaect it to be better then the real thing.

Also, im thinking of picking one up just becaus there is no way its worse then the stocker and its only 150 bucks. The only thing holding me back is I cant tell which BOV it is flanged for and when I e-mailed the seller he never responded.

greddy bov....is the flange....ss will never respond....

So do you think it is worth spending $ 1k for a greddy, blitz or HKS one ? I'm after value for money and i paid 200,00 USD for the SSA Fmic... so do you think the brand items could offer me a lot of hp gain for $ 800,00 more?

7passu 04-22-07 06:56 PM

i don't think so

Ok, step back here, you DO NOT BUY AN INTERCOOLER SPECIFICALLY FOR HORSEPOWER. That being said it sounds like you have invested in a nice setup (I hope) to get to 400whp, so why dont you keep investing in your nice setup with nice parts. An aftermarket intercooler on a single turbo is for keeping temps down because you are moving more air at a faster rate, this will gain you around 15-20hp? (im guessing), but thats it.

Get on the classified section and get a used greddy 3 row for around a grand.

The intercooler is to keep temps down and prevent heatsoak.

In theory cooler air is denser, which means you can fit more air into a given area, thus more horsepower but not much.

I also dont think its worth the money for these damn intercoolers but you want quality parts on your car that perform at limit.

Ebay intercoolers wont perform well at the limit....... bottom line.

fucking thrift shoppers, our cars deserve better then rice. just dont show up to a meet with that intercooler. you will get laughed off the lot and not invited to the BBQ's because if you are that thrifty, you might dine and ditch.

buy that intercooler and see what happens, i promise it will blow a seem weld (might even be epoxy) once you hit 10psi.

That is NOT an FMIC, it is meant to be an SMIC. You will want to replace the couplers and clamps with decent ones, and more importantly, you will need to fabricate a good fitting duct. There is already a very large thread on these, please read here:
