I have asked the same question many of times and I don't think anyone has a horizontal IC. However, the there are tons of threads on stock mount vs front mount. the draw backs to the front mount is installation, lack of air to the radiator, boost lag, turbos work harder and wear out faster because they have a larger volume of air to fill.

I was very interested in it and had even talked to Ray. The reasons I did not get it: (1) would have to get rid of my Efini pipe set(could have lived with this) and (2) would not work with the RX7 tower strut brace(could not except this).

If I got it, would have built a seal between it and the hood.
Would have had the hood louvered over the IC for direct external venting.

SRX7 intercooler has huge core and the intercooler is mounted horizontal to the motor. Much like the TurboII and SMIC the down side to that is heat soak. Another problem with SRX7's I/C is that once the air has gone though the core. It has nowhere to exit from there.

Anyone bitchin about FMIC, needs to take ride in a car that has one Than the bullshit stops.
:o Yes, it is a major pain to install the Greddy FMIC.

It would not heat soak any more than any other IC located in the same area, M2 is included in this. It has 2" of free space between it and the hood for venting.

A FMIC does not increase lag any significant amount, and it does not make the turbos work any harder or wear them out faster.

The biggest disadvantage is preheating the radiator air. If you are a street/drag strip person it probably won't be a problem since you aren't pushing the cooling system very hard. If you road race, especially if its warm or hot outside, you'll wish you had gone SMIC.
