sputtering from 1/2 to full throttle...HELP!

yo whats up everyone im just about to buy 1993 rx7 and the car has been sitting for quite some time now. from what the guy tells me he starts it up once in a while and drives it around the block. he hasnt changed the oils, gas, plugs or any plug wires since he let it sit about a year and a half ago. apparently the car wasnt sputtering from 1/2 to full throttle when he parked it. i went to drive it one day and the car runs PERFECTLY fine, no rust, and no mods to the engine. the rx7 runs perfectly fine and shifts through all gears very nicely but after you hit the gas more than half way to the floor it starts to sputter. i brought one of my buddies to see it also and he says that it mighte be a intake problem and wont be too much to fix up. im sure it needs a standard tune up and all but does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? the severity of it and if it will cost me a arm and a leg to fix? maybe its not worth the hassel of buying the car!?

sunday is the day im going down to pick it up with a trailer... annny last minute opinions/suggestions/advise let me know before i seal the deal... any feedback is greatly appreciated!

thanks guys!

might be old gas in the tank. also check the map sensor and make sure the line is still attached easy fix just plug it back in. get about 5 gal's of 100 octane unleaded gas and put it in the tank. drive the car slowly without hitting boost driving out the old gas. take the car to a shop for a full service tune up and fluid replacement.

Sounds to me like the car is in limp mode , i bet it will accelerate to the red line with only slight throttle but if you try pressing the gas pedal any more than a little bit it hold backs and splutters and backfires. Try pulling the ECU codes.

Mine was doing that when I had a bad coil, but it sounds more likely that its corrosion on some electrical connections on the coils, plug wires, or plugs themselves. Gas is a good start.

i got platinum spark plugs in a few days ago, runs a lot better but that wasnt the problem. me and a buddy of mine actually diagnosed the OMP and turns out that the OMP is bad and its sending a bad signal to the ECU and is throwing it in to limp mode to protect the car!

as of right now im looking for a OMP (oil metering pump) and hopefully with have it in the FD shortly! ill let you guys know whats up...

come to think of it there are two ground wires that go into the ECU, one was very loose and the other was completely off. is there any way loose or no ground wires to the ECU couldve fried the ECU? what do you guys think???
