Spring perches...$400+?

I just ordered spring perches for my FD (the rubber things that the springs "attach" to the shock with...F&R, top and bottom). I needed all four, so I called Marina Mazda and ordered the parts.

Should I have been charged over 400 bucks? I was under the impression that it would be more like 200 and some change. Did I get overcharged?

You might have been able to get them for a bit less from Malloy Mazda but they are still pretty expensive for what they are. This is why I don't understand why more people don't just go with coilovers. By the time you replace the shocks, springs, and rubber you could almost have a nice set of coilovers.

You're tellin' me.

600 for the koinis
200 for the RSRs
400 for the lousy rubber doughnuts

I could have found a nice set of teins for 1200 bucks.

EDIT did I say 400? I meant $475.33

Whats the part number? I can look it up for you if you want

HKNY 01-17-07 10:56 AM

that is alot, i just got all for for $220

Natey 01-17-07 10:59 AM

BackyardSog. I'm not sure. I just ordered "spring perches, top and bottom, front and rear".

HKNY: Help a brotha out with link or phone number? :dunno:

I was planning on calling Ray at malloy, but if I can get 'em for $220 as well, I'll go for it.

Well from looking at the picture my guess is that you ordered

Front
2 - FD15-34-110B - Retail $67.20 - Total - $134.40
2 - FD01-28-012 - Retail $18.25 - Total - $36.50

Rear
2 - FD15-28-110A - Retail $67.20 - Total - $134.40
2 - FD01-28-012 -Retail $18.25 - Total - $36.50

Grand Total - $341.80

This is assuming its just the rubber bumpers that go above and below the spring. I would suggest calling sombody like Malloy if you are paying full retail for somthing like this.

rynberg 01-17-07 11:22 AM

I paid under $100 for the fronts a few years back....you people need to run 2 auto-x/year so you can be a member of MazdaMotorsports.

But yeah, you paid out the ass. Why does anyone ever order from a "normal" Mazda dealer anymore?

Natey 01-17-07 12:05 PM

Thanks B.Y.S for the part numbers. That seems to be right, but they charged me 88 bucks apiece for the tops and 23 for the bottom. I'm calling Ray @ Malloy right now.

rynberg, thanks fo rthe kind words...?

I didn't pay anything, I cancelled my order this morning when I saw how much they charged my cc. "Us people" don't like autoXing because Laguna Seca is about 25 minutes from my house and I take my car there to play around on track days. I know about Mazda Motorsports, but like I said, I'm not a big fan of autox, and drag racing is out for me. Also, to tell you the truth, I don't trust my FD to drive to San Francisco, autoX all day, then get me home. Like a lot of people here, the FD isn't my daily driver, it's got a ton of miles on it, and I don't want to beat on it in a parking lot.

rynberg 01-17-07 12:10 PM

???

A track day is harder on the car than 30 auto-x days....I don't like auto-x either but I like the huge price discount on parts. And access to 99+ parts. A well-run auto-x lasts a few hours and you get maybe 4-5 runs in. If your car can't handle that, you've got problems.

Anyway, there's no reason to order from anyone but Malloy Mazda or one of the big online parts companies.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, just putting my 2 cents in.

Surely you can find the metal pieces used somewhere and just order new rubber linings.

dgeesaman 01-17-07 05:08 PM

There are some dealers out there who charge MORE than retail for parts.

It's sad enough that some people have no concept of what the dealer charges for doing work compared to the indie shops, but when the dealer marks up the already insane retail prices, it's criminal.

Stick with Ray. Your local dealer won't have anything useful in stock, and if they do it's usually not worth paying double.
