Sports Car International "affordable sports"

The latest issue (May '04) of my favorite auto rag "Sports Car International" features the 3rd gen RX-7 as its "affordable sports" of the month. Each month they highlight a sports car that is worthy of consideration of buying. From my read of the article it was written by someone who actually knows the car.

He mentions the recalls, and other pros and cons of the car. He ends the article by citing that "Prices...are hovering around the $15-16K mark. That's econobox money for supercar performance, head-turning looks and a built-in community." (He must've been talking about us.)

Pick it up for a good description of our favorite car!!!

He's wrong about the pricing though. From what I've seen people cant seem to sell their cars for like 12k even lately.

screw that noone sells under 16k we must all agree on this for it to be standard price.

I think the 15K to 16K was refering to the the average market price. Some sell for more, some sell for less. Prices also vary depending on your region of the country. From what I have scene these cars go for a premium in Cali.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll pick up a copy. A little pub and a little spurt in demand might help resale.

My favorite car magazine. They have always liked the FD. Look for back issues with articles written by (I think) Michael Jordan. He was considering buying the test car at the end of their long-term test.

16k seems reasonable. Although I got mine for 5k. :D

He sure did. Remember when he was playing baseball in the minors? There was that one month period where he retired from baseball-- he was stuck in his FD and couldn't get out. He returned to baseball at the end of the month, when he lost a coolant seal and decided to sell the car. ;)

Under what circumstances/condition? Obvoiusly that would be the exception, not the norm.

I think that the $15-16K range is a good one considering '93s to '95s.

Mine is a '93, heavily modded. When I had temporary insanity and tried to sell it, I had a top offer of $19.9K. Fortunately, since I was holding out for $22K (frankly, was asking $25K), didn't sell it. And glad for it.

NukeGenius 02-28-04 05:47 PM

I'm just saying take a look at the for sale section. These are the people who know about the cars (I would hope) more than others, and only the more heavily modded ones are going for more than 13k, unless it is somebody that has no idea what he/she is doing and is asking a price that they will never get. I agree that now is the time to buy because most decent, lightly modded fds are going for less than 12k. Most of those guys aren't even getting offers.

I think it's funny everyone is so concerned about resale value. Why oh why are you so fretful and defensive about unloading your cars? Maybe because it's an unreliable PITA? ;)

I think some of us see it as a retirement fund. ;)
