Speedometer sensor missing cap

So in the process of replacing my tranny output seal, I found my speedometer sensor was missing its cap. Exposing all the grease inside. Has anyone seen this issue before? I did some searching, but didn't find anything.

Could exhaust heat have caused this? My car has an aftermarket downpipe with no heat wrap on it.

Yeah there's not a cap or anything on it, just a potting compound that leaks like the knock sensors do. As stated, fill with black RTV and go.
