I saw this thread 2 days ago, and haven't been able to stop thinking about this. More info on wiring would be great.

Just want clarification on the oil pressure gauge. I see they only offer a 100psi oil pressure gauge. I think you said you're running an LS3 so this wouldn't really affect you, but isn't normal FD3S oil pressure in the 50 - 200 range. They have a generic "pressure" gauge that goes up to 200psi, wondering if that could be used for this?

Their oil pressure gauges are 0-100, 0-60, 7 bar, 14bar.Fuel pressure has a 0-200 psi option. The generic pressure gauge has a 0-150 psi option, as well as 200, 300, 500.

Hey guys,

I'm still thinking about doing this. Would the stock turn signals still work after the original gauges have been removed from the cluster?

The one i am curious to know is the tach wiring.. i have seen the instructions with the tach signal coming from the pfc. There has to be a resistor in parallel. Who know how?

you mentioned that you just threaded/pushed them into place, do you mean you were able to retain the speedhut backing nut? or just by how you cut a ring around the existing hole that it was tight fit to get them in there?

So there is some information here that indicates the speedhut gauges can be made to work in a FD, but IMO the jury is still out on the functions not directly addressed. I think the OP was doing a LS conversion, so some functions like the check engine light are superfluous. Also there is not a clear explanation about the dimming circuit - I get it that the speedhut gauges have their own dimming but what about the rest of the panel that is dependent on the FD dimming circuit? So I think this will be a little more complicated if you need to retain full functionality of all the OEM functions. That said, the end result looks fantastic and when my gauge cluster craps out I will be seriously looking at doing this mod even if it takes a lot more effort to complete all the OEM functionality.

Factory dimming circuit is pulsed ground if my memory serves me correctly. Speedhut uses a rheostat of some sort to control a separate box. Now, one could theoretically make a signal conversion that converts the ground pulse signal from the factory dimmer switch, and then feeds a comparable signal through to the Speedhut control unit.

check engine light: if you’re staying OEM with the ECU, then you’ll need to retain the Speedometer, or at least the circuit board for it.... somewhere.

cruise control: if you do not get a dual gauge (gpa speedo/fuel gauge) the. You can pay a little extra to have a speedometer output added that is within 2.5% of the factory output.

i have the dimming working on mine.
what did you do for the dimming? Hook the ground of the rheostat up to the ground of the factory dimmer?

That is correct, I removed all the rings on the gauges. This let's you thread the gauge itself into the housing. Then the plastic gauge cover bolts down and additionally holds it in place.

The speedhut tach includes a couple resistors to get it working. I had to use one of them for mine but I'm running a GM ecu so I can't speak for the mazda.

The fuel gauge is a single wire, just needs to be tapped into the brown/green wire on the factory harness on the cluster:

Oil pressure and water temp use speedhut gauges, so those run independently

I can try to film a video for you. I just used the speedhut dimmer switch, im unsure what else the factory dimmer switch dimmed besides the gauges.

The factory dimmer also dims all the other lights like heater/ac lights like *****, vent settings and fan speed selection not sure about factory radio buttons and screen. O and also fog lamp button light.

So the tach uses the resistor in parallel between the tach signal and an ACC 12v. Do you know if that 12v ACC is connected to the gauge or its used only to connect the resistor in parallel with the tach signal comming from the ecu?
thanks, once i figure this out i will be ordering

I had been planning this for over 5 years. This just put it over the top for me since the mounting solution was made FAR easier than originally thought. Plus, I missed the only 25% off sale I have ever seen from Speedhut.... so I was not going to miss the 20% off on Black Friday.

I found this on another forum. Perhaps it really is as simple as getting the 12v+ for the Speedhut dimmer switch from the 12v+ side of the dimmer switch? Then, adjust maximum brightness one time for the Speedhut gauges and then use factory from then on. At least, that is how I am interpreting it.
Hooray!
I can contribute my lessons learned to this thread if that’s ok.
