Speedbleeders rock!
 

I just got through doing the whole brake system with Porterfield pad, ATE Super Blue brake fluid, and Speedbleeders and I must say that teh SpeedBleeders have got to be one of the greatest products ever created.

I changed the pads last week. I was really surprised by how easy it was to change the brakes (especially the front) on a RX. Only bad thing about the Porterfields R4S is that they create a lot more dust than stock. Within 2 days the wheels were completely coated with brake dust. They do seem to "bite" harder when hot though, so I'm not complaining.

Today I sucked as much of the fluid as I could out of brake fluid reservoir with a turkey baster. I then filled the reservoir with ATE Super Blue. I started with the passenger rear. Steps are as follows

1. Remove the wheel, remove the old bleed screw
2. Put in the new SpeedBleeder and wrenched it down all the way until it stopped
3. Loosened the SpeedBleeder 1/4 turn
4. Connected a plastic tube to the SpeedBleeder
5. Went into the car and pumped the brakes 5-6 times
6. Filled the reservoir
7. Pumped the brakes another 5-6 times
8. Tightened The SpeedBleeder.
9. Test braking to make sure no fluid is leaking from the bleeder

Did the same for the rest of the brakes, total time including removal of the wheels was about 40 minutes and this was a complete flush of the braking system, the stuff coming out of the bleeder was as blue as the stuff in the bottle. It usually takes me that long to just bleed the brakes of air without the bleeders(which must involve another party as well).

In any case I'm sold. I'm hoping now my RX will stop as well as it accelerates.

BTW, I only used about 3/4 of the 1 liter bootle of Super Blue to flush the system. Does this sound right?

I took my car out for some "spirited" driving and all I can say is holy sh*t the car stops hard now. This has got to be the hardest stopping car I have ever driven (including cars with 13" brakes such as latter generation Mustang Cobras, C5 Corvettes, and Audi S4s). The combination of new Porterfield R4S and Super Blue give the RX repeated/none fade stop capabilities that are truely astounding. And now the brakes seem to bite hard within the first inch and a half of movement in the brake pedal (it was closer to 2-3 inches before I flushed the brake system). I'm constantly lookin in the rear view now to make sure that nobody rear-ends me when I brake!

I don't know. I'm wasn't too impressed with them.

Maybe It's my bad luck comming up again.

I guess accidentally breaking the head off my jade budha statue wasn't a good idea.

I ordered mine early in the week. I should have them by friday. DId anyone buy the clutch bleeder? They offered it but I gel'd and said no. I didnt know they had that too! if anyone has used it tell all.

I brought my and my friend did his type-R without taking the tires off....

and did my in 5 minutes per side...pump is the way to go....and it's perfect for every car...bleeders are very car specific and they are about the same price..only 10 bucks extra I think

Yeah, i told ming about this, and I have one myself. It's so much better than speedbleeders. You hook it up to the reservoir, pump it up, and open the bleed screw on the brake. There's pressing of the brake pedal at all. And it's ridiculously fast. First wheel, I took off, but then when i realized how easy, I left the other 3 on...it's THAT easy. www.motiveproducts.com i think is the site.

I agree with the motive product...a friend who owns a porsche hooked me up with this product. Its awesome!

Only problem is that it doesn't work with my Jeep XJ

So far I am not impressed with the speedbleeders so I bought the motive pump system and will see how I like that one.

when ordering the pump..get teh EURO version...the cap fits perfect......for the RX-7

dam I already ordered the universal one!! The Euro one is an option! What the hell! My car isnt Euro?

You can actually find Speedbleeders at your local Pep-Boys!! I found a set for my FD (7mmx1 and 8mmx1) in the anodized/rice section. Look for other stuff of the Russell brand. Props to member Silver7 for giving me this tip.

Oh and btw, don't screw those little things in too much. I actually broke one of my rear bleeders while trying to do a quick flush at the track....:( Now I need to figure out how to get that sucker out!

I broke one off in my front caliper. This is what you do. Take the caliper off and drill around the edge of the casing so you can get the SS ball bearing out. Once you do that use a 5/32 allen wrench and tap it into the hole and turn it out. if that doesnt work drill out a hole big enouhg for an ez-out. Even though its not hardened steel you can back it out with an easy out in one piece. Be carefull and dont get overzelous. If the car is not your daily driver send the caliper to speedbleeder and they will take it out for you and put in a new one, I believe at no charge. The problem is down time. If you lived close I would do it for you seeing I just broke one and took it out yesterday. Good luck.

It's 9:30 at night and i just finish changing my brake lines and bleeding them.....the Speedbleeders are great. Flushed all the old fluid out of my system too.

I was paranoid about breaking them in the calipers but hopefully the car will stop tomorrow. I did a few passes around the block....seem to be ok.

Gonna change the rotors tomorrow...I didn't have time. Damn this is the 3rd time I had to change my rotors.

Looking forward to it though I got a set of ENDLESS brake pads from Japan so we'll see.

It is DEFINITELY the Euro version. I know because I have one. I found this out by someone else telling me. It screws onto the brake resevoir perfectly. The universal one, heck i dunno what that's for.

I just checked their website and it seems that they have more powerbleeders now than they did when this topic was made. According to some we need the "euro" version but now theres an "import" version that says its compatible with all Mazda reservoirs. Anyone have this import version?

what size is the thread on the clutch slave? (trying to get a speedbleeder for it to)

and are you guys flushing the brake fluid with the key on (to turn on the ABS solenoids)

A buddy of mine tried the speedbleeder for the clutch and it didn't fit right (fluid kept leaking). It was "suppose" to be the correct one. The ones for the brakes worked just fine so I would skip the clutch one, IMO.
