Speaker Mounts?

Whats the deal with the slots that go behind the drivers seat and passengers seat right above the containers in the back? I have two friends with theese cars and theres both have the speakers in the slots. My rx7 is the touring addition, and it doesnt have the speakers.... So is that a aftermarket add on? Or is that just a option that the original owner did not want? Anyone know where i can get the mounts for the speakers to go in there?

i have a 93 touring with stock speakers and that is where they are located.

but i dont have speakers there, its like empty bens, but like they where there on purpose its not like there where speakers and someone took them out....

Since you have the Touring, as do I, you have the Bose speakers under the hatch. The bins are pretty much just there to collect dust unless you do something with them.

Just find someone with the speaker grills to buy the from, that's what I just did.

Bose system doesn't have speakers there - just pockets instead. Non-Bose cars have speakers. They fit 6x8 speakers but you'd need brackets that might not be made anymore. I just put 6x9's in the back deck where the Bose holes were. Fits perfect and it's a very clean look.

sounds like its worth a shot.... i like that setup more than the bose set up.....

Which set-up? Let me know if you need help. I might do a write-up on my $400 Bose overhaul. Alpine HU, 6-1/2" fronts, and 6x9 rears using the existing wires. So simple even a caveman can do it.......and provides much better sound than my Bose system ever did. Also saves 30 lbs or so getting rid of the door enclosures and snake sub.

my touring 93 bose removal... 6x8 addition mod. non-detailed-write up

1. i used 6x8. and a custom wooden bracket.
2. took a piece of 8x10 3/4 inch mdf. round the corners off
3. drilled holes in the wood to match the factory-drilled holes..
4. bolt through them, cept 1 which is too far for the wood... i used a ziptie for it.(like 4 of them..heavy duty kinds)
5. as for the meshy screen... i cut open the touring map holder and speaker is half exposed and half covered.. you can also go the extra step and cut the front of the map holder and make a screen for it.

as for wiring run an amp in the hatch and go through the removable panel or under the carpet.

cost me less than $10 as opposed to spending $50each for a screen+metal bracket. looks very clean(cant even tell its ghetto mounted). fits flush, no plastic panels are bulging out

also be sure you have something that can balance the sound.. you will hear alot of back right speaker since the speaker on your left is covered by the seat.. unless u seat further back.. and all you will hear is the bcak left speaker in your ear.

I think im just going to take it to a custom shop and get them to build mounts for it... This way if anything gets broke.... Its on them.
