Are the spark plug wires easy to change?
 

Getting ready to put in new plug wires and I went to Robinette's site for a how-to....his says you have to tak off the extension manifold to get to them...is there an easier way?

Not really. I suppose that if you had some sort of plug wire extension grabber you could wiggle the plug wires on and off of the coils, but there would be no real guarantee that you would seat them completely. Best bet is to pull the upper intake manifold and apply a dab of super glue, or like I did, use some gasket sealer to prevent the boots from popping off. This is not so important with stock plug wires but is essential with after market wires.

No. Just take it off and the oil filler (it probably needs a new gasket anyway.)

It's easy to change your wires. remove, intake elbow, remove throttle body and the coils should be right there. If you are using after market wires such has jacobs, you'll need to ziptie time or less they will slip off due to their boot design.

Does anyone know the part number for the stock wires? I need to replace mine and it might save me some trouble to go with the mazda wires. How much do they cost?

I think RX7.com has a listing for the stock wires or call your local dealer. When I put on the Jacobs wires, the directions tell you to bend a paperclip into the coil boot to burp the air out. Worked fine for me without zip ties. The old ones were a bitch to remove from the coils - I thought I was going to break something pulling on them. On my 93, I think it is impossible to get 1 coil wire without removing the oil filler.

The first thing I did to my car was change to NGK plugs and wires.

I only took off the TB and elbow and was able to change them in about an hour.

Get the Jacobs wires from rx7.com
No assembly, affordable, good fit, nice seal if you use the paper clip burping technique.

The NGK's aren't bad though.

Difficulty mat be a relative term here. It is not so hard, but on my first time it was pretty difficult. I had never removed the throttle body before. I also had trouble getting one of the plugs out...the last one.
I think it would be easier to work from both the top and the bottom of the car.

does anyone have pictures of this procedure?
i jsut changed the battery in my FD drove around for a bit parked my car the next day i went to start it.. and it just keeps turning over .. i was goin got change the plugs but then i pulled off the bottom wire on the front rotor.. it took no effort whatsoever for it to come off the spark plug (very loose)
could this be the reason for my starting problem???
