Sources and prices for brake rotors and pads - recent search
 

So I needed to replace all (4) brake rotors and pads on my car. Did a lot of searching to compare prices among forum vendors, eBay and Internet stores. Thought I would share some details in case someone else is currently looking.

I was looking at the Hawk HPS and Axxis/PBR XBG pads based on previous research about them being better than stock, but dusting less than pads designed for the track.

For those of you not aware, PowerStop and SportStop start out as Centric premium rotors and get machined (drilled or slotted or both). I like them because of the black eCoating, and double disc grinding.

Did you do any research about cross drilled rotors?

I buy a lot of Hawk Pads and occasionally rotors when the team gets a little aggressive on our 24 Hours of Lemons car. FD's use the same pads as four piston FC's so Ive even bought a set for my FD at the same time.

Company I use is Hawk Pads Direct. They are Kingtek I think on ebay. I can vouch for them since I have probably bought 6+ sets of brakes between Lemons cars and my FD. I also bought two sets of brake rotors from them.

Their number is 1-800-738-HAWK (4295).

They are very reasonably priced already - probably lowest on ebay. If you call them, ask for a discount since you are buying everything from them at once.

Good choice on the HPS for a street car. The HP+ do dust somewhat more but they do not fade as much.

I like blank rotors and ones made from Germany. I purchased some Meyle rotors from FCPimport.com They ran out of the Meyle rotors I guess and they gave me Brembo fronts and OPparts rear rotors for $105 shipped.

The blank rotors have more material for heat sink and the pads have long life on them. The rotors are all made to iron grade SAE 3000 and as long as they are cast with minimal pores in them they are my top pick. I would not purchase drilled or slotted rotors. They gain you nothing, in fact probably eat pads faster and tend to crack over time.


If you like hawk HPS pads, I will be selling a set very soon with only 700 miles on them. Let me know if anyone wants them. I am stepping up to a more aggressie EBC bluestuff pad.

I have also bought many brake pads for FDs and FCs. If you are street or autox I would go for the Hawk HPS, if you track light/med then I would go for the HP+. The HP+ take just one stop to warm up and dust is an issue but they take the heat well. I've seen my rotors dark red and they worked well.

EBC makes a nice blank rotor for the FD, they're about $60 each. They have the OE-style spots for the retention screws and have the 12mm threaded hole to pop the rotor off the hub. I have some on my car, they've been fantastic.

How about a fellow forum vendor? I have good prices on Hawk pads (HP and HP+) on my website www.j-auto.net and also carry brake rotors (blank, slotted, drilled) from most manufacturers. I'm currently working on a new version of my website which will have many more parts but if theres something you need, PM or e-mail me and I'll give the best prices I possibly can. :)

Bought a set of Power-Slot rotors a few years ago and have been happy. IIRC they also have the retention screw and threaded hole for removal, but I've always just use a little anti-seize on the back side. As for a source, many places carry them. I'd just price compare...with shipping of course.

I just recently purchased a set of their GD rotors for all four corners, and I'll be pairing them with Endless MX72 pads. They appealed to me bc they're dimpled rather than drilled. I know there is a lot of talk about drilling compromising the integrity of the rotor, so I figure dimples are the next best thing.

I'll post feedback on the setup early(March?) next year.
