Sound of resonated midpipe and racing beat catback
 

Just figured I'd throw this up here since it may be of interest to people searching the 3rd gen forum in the future.

This is a streetported single turbo setup running a 3 inch downpipe, borla resonated midpipe, and the Racing Beat dual tip catback. I absolutely love the sound and consider it to be almost perfect. I've heard the loud obnoxious droney rotaries and it just puts me off. I can drive this thing all day around town and barely turn any heads, well it still does lol but not because of how loud it is. I love not drawing the extra attention (especially cops). It does however transform into quite the beast up top (I ran this setup on the twins) but have yet to hear it with the single setup as I'm still in a break-in period.

The car is also very good on the highway. I can EASILY have a conversation with someone in the car (without yelling too) while cruising at 80mph. You can still hear the exhaust obviously but it is far from what I consider to be droning. If the radio is turned up even a little bit I don't even notice the exhaust as being an annoyance.

I will try to get videos of the sound on the highway as well as some of it opening up a bit in the future that I will update in this thread.


My only concern right now will be the restriction and power I will be sacrificing when I finally get tuned. I would hate to have to change this setup but I may switch to a Greddy EVO catback if I can find one as I hear that is a pretty tame exhaust that will flow better than the Racing Beat.

Anyways, just wanted to share for future reference. BTW, the smoke is from me running just a tad but much of premix. I still have the OMP installed and am trying to find that right balance for the amount of premix. Engine is just over 500 miles on the rebuild so this video has the revs going to a max of about 4-4.5k.

Sounds pretty good, I think your setup is more quiet than my Ganador Ti with Magnaflow resonator on twins.

you know it's weird but I find myself thinking that the car idles quieter with the long runner manifold and single turbo than it did when I was on the twins. I also ran a bonez high flow cat for like 8 years and that was probably idled the loudest, but not by too much.

And when I say loud, it really isn't loud....just comparatively speaking.

I haven't been around other rotary much beside mine, so I don't know if my setup is on the loud side or on the quieter side. If compare to my MX-6 on 2.5" straight turbo back, the 7 is quieter, but if the MX-6 is N/A with I/H/Borla Exhaust the 7 is louder.

Your sounds like my 6 in its current N/A form.

:dunno:it looks like your exhaust is hanging funny, low on the right side. Sorry little things like that bug me, car sounds amazing though. Im running a large magnaflo resonator thru my st. mays and love it! its hard to tell if its louder thru a video but mine is definitely deeper in tone.

yea videos really never do any exhaust system justice. My camera was picking up the sound a little weird as well....it has like an auto setting I think that will cut low frequencies once they reach a certain point. The car certainly sounds pretty deep in person.


And yes, the exhaust does sort of sit crooked. When I originally purchased it like 10 years ago I didn't have the bracket for that side and I didn't really want to have to wait so I basically fabricated my own and it has since overtime sort of bent/loosened.

It's looks a lot more pronounced I'd say since the camera is on the ground....at normal eye level it is barely noticeable, if at all so it's just something I haven't gotten around to fixing just yet.
