Sooo my FD just Died.....

Looks like the rear rotor is gone.. I need some help from the Veterans to get her back on the road..
need some ideas as to how to tackle this on a budget..

does anyone have info on this company????

http://got-jdm.com/9296-jdm-13btt-tw...ncut-p-70.html

even though it is used.. it seems fairly cheap.. or should i go the Pettit racing rebuild the one that i have now route??
the shop estimates 1k to pull and replace the engine
and a rebuild if going for 3k

dont know what to do ..
anyone have a spare engine lying around...

any and all ideas would help..

Sal ..

Hey man, sorry to hear. I guess you got compression testings on rear rotor and the were shot?

Anyhow, I see youre in Gainesville, FL as I used to live i there back when in college. THere is a shop in Tampa (around there) called MazTech from what my other FD buddy at the time mentioned. However, considering you're already in FL...Petting Racing is the way to go which is down in Ft. Lauderdale area. Prestigous company: http://pettitracing.com/rx7/index_engines.htm

Right, on a single turbo car. Stock twin turbo car with all emissions and accessories isn't a fun task to take apart, and putting it back together properly with no intake/exhaust/oil/coolant leaks is not easy, so don't fool yourself ;)

Give me some more information on the engines that you have.
what year and what exactly is " low miles"?

Has anyone had any worked with Japan2LA in the past?

supraturbo1987 09-07-07 09:57 AM

He is a respected member as far as I am concerned! (Japan2LA)

If your on a budget Pettit isn't a viable choice. If you go with a motor from Japan2La once you get the motor I'll offer my drive way tools and what expertise I have to help install. The other option is have the motor delivered to Holten automotive and have him install as he is quite reasonable on labor and flexibility. Jack

justturbo2 09-07-07 11:02 AM

hey japan2la is that with the tranny. the site rosrex7 posted it came with tranny. just wondering if yours did also. i am also looking for a motor. and what is the cost on shipping to 11426

My Fd is at holton right now.. they have a short block sitting on the floor that they said they would give to me to send out. once it comes back they will swap it out for me. .I just dont know what would be a better out come . buy an used one and hold on to the one that i have in the car now.. so i can send it out and get it rebuild at a later time. or just spend money on a rebuilt right now which is going ot cost more and take longer..

Probably the motor that came out of Melissa's car.

a little progress

after i picked my car up from holton..
they told me that they did get it to start briefly..
either way. i just went out to see if i could get it to start.
i purchased a can of quick start (starter fluid) and sprayed it into the intake while cranking it. and it fired right up and would stay running as long as the quick start was being sprayed in to the intake. as soon as i stopped spraying.. the engine died.

before i did all that i cranked the engine and pulled the plugs and replaced them with brand new ones.. thats where i got the quick start idea. the old plugs were covered with fuel

does that sound like a bad engine or a fuel problem??

Troux 10-13-07 12:48 PM

I think I PM'ed you already, but I do have a '94 TT drivetrain I'm trying to get rid of.

rosrex7 10-13-07 01:01 PM

yeah .. i just dont have any hard cash the throw into my car right now..
i wish i could.. but on top of that.. i still have to get it put it..
i really hope that its not as bad as needing an engine right now..
so im still tinkering with it but i dont see me getting into money till next year..

Sure am happy on a single turbo car, its a simple wiring harness and hardly many vacuum lines. Yes rich, you are right I was thinking about my own setup and not others. I would more then likely be lost if I had to do it on a stock tt car :(

rosrex7 07-01-08 09:33 PM

Ok ........ so from where i left off....

I finally got it started... some 10 months later. i honestly did give up for awhile..
turns out that the problem was with the "click click" issue.. I was lead to think that it was the fuel system... from holton automotive. so i replaced the fuel pump after trying to start the car started using starter fluid.. by the time i found a fuel pump and put it in,, the car wouldnt crank at all..(thats where i gave up) turns out the contacts on the ignition were all goooey.... cleaned them off and it cranked right up but still stalling,,, upon further investigation..a lot of cursing. the damn fuel pump fuse was missing popped in a new one and it runs fine....

so my FD has been down for almost a year...... but running fine now.. . a little smoke at start up but its always done that.... but what should i do now?

what the state of an engine that hasn't turned over in a year??

cabaynes 07-01-08 10:00 PM

I once installed a motor in a car that hadn't been turned over in 2+ years... it ran great, no issues at all... did go easy on it at first to loosen everything up, but you should be good. might want to premix also for a little while

houston93rx7 07-01-08 10:02 PM

hey trout what drivetrain are you selling?

what r u selling? and how much?

Rx72Heaven 07-01-08 10:14 PM

umm... Did you get a compression test? If not do that, that will tell you if your apex seals are damaged or not.

rosrex7 07-02-08 06:43 AM

Well when i took it to holton automotive they had it for about a week trying to get it started.. i have no idea as to what in all they did.... they told me that the rear rotor had little to no compresion (didnt really give me an numbers) and there might be a problem with the fuel pump. they said they would be happy to pull my engine and put in another one for 2k. before the car stopped working i drove it every day and wasnt running it hard, so i stopped worrying about the engine and looked into the fuel system... I guess getting a compression test now would be the best way..
I am starting it every day now and letting it idle for about 10 mins.. It has a flat tire so i cant drive it
