So my FD is crashed....

First off..

Hey guys my name is J.J., Im an FD owner..grew up with rotaries and I've owned mine for alittle under a year. I've hung around the forums for a long time, but finally decided to join in 04. Im active with tha Chicago community more then on here.

Anyways, here's what happened.

Made a left turn (which was a 2 lane left turn). A guy had in an attempt to race me switched lanes (to my lane) and clipped my 99 spec front bumper on tha right side. Rear end came loose, counter steered, took foot off the pedal. The next thing I know tha rear swing tha opposite direction fast(Pointing right in a 2 lane freeway), so I counter steer as quickly as I could but tha car is heading off tha road. I jump a small curb, go through a construction fence, and jump a little dirt mound which had scrap metal, broken cylinder blocks..etc.

Pictures - http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...addy915/Crash/

There's no frame damage. Cracked rim, getting tha shifter into gear is alil funny, a lot of damage (besides tha body) was to tha suspension. Bent up sway bar, broken control arms, etc etc.

Well in attempt's to save sum cash, I opted to go with liability insurance. Talked to my agent, and my policy will only cover tha fence if the company decides to bill me. Unfortunately he left tha scene and was not caught..so im left to pay for it all.

Plans

Im currently looking into creating a body kit. So far I got my eye on GTC front bumper, feed side skirts, feed front/rear wide fenders, RE diffuser, and *crosses fingers* espirit rear tail light cover/spoiler (FDNewbie please respond to my inquire about this).

Molded body kit, new paint, no dents, etc.

Currently

I have a family mechanic who is in tha process of getting me tha parts, and installing them to get me up and driving again. Looking at 1000$ (To my mechanic, not including replacing front, fenders, headlights, intercooler, etc from forum members) to be back on tha road again.

SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this is were Im at guys. I just felt like sharing my new project with all of you, and I'd like your opinions on the body kit Im thinking about putting together.

I would think that if it was clearly the other douchebag's fault, his insurance should cover your repair, unless you have some kind of "no-fault" insurance where you live, where everyoen is responsible for their own vehicle regardless of circumstance.

Fastway 01-17-07 10:58 AM

Maybe this is why the other guy isn't paying.

Well I did reverse tha car and try to get him. Unforunately, since I took out 3 links of tha fence, 2 of em were stuck halfway under tha car in tha front and on my side. I couldn't move anywhere. Besides, my suspesion is torn to hell. I doubt I would've got far.

ArmitageGVR4 01-17-07 11:06 AM

Sorry to hear that man, that sucks. Nothing worse than low lifes that won't own up to their own mistakes. Good luck with your car and look on the bright side -- now's your chance for new parts and a new paint job :)

BTW: if you take anything away from this experience at all, it's that you should never lift when the rear end comes loose if you are going to try and save it by counter-steering.

Your description of the accident isn't very detailed. It sounds like you were racing this guy around a turn where both lanes turned to the left. If this is the case, you are likely partially to blame because you were racing on the street. I'm not saying that he didn't cause the accident. However, bad things can happen when racing on the street. Side by side cornering is obviously particularly hazardous.

Good luck getting it fixed :).

BuffDaddy915 01-17-07 11:15 AM

Lol na no racing by me. He was in a n/a eclipse/talon. I have enough tame on myself to not waste my gas on this. I took tha turn on tha inside lane, he on tha outside, then just after we straightened he floored it and cut into me. Sorry..I got home from work last night 10pm-9am so Im wore out.

Thanks though.

Montego 01-17-07 11:29 AM

wow sorry to hear :(

There is a lesson here though: It's more expensive not to have insurance, than it is to actually have it. Full coverage on any car that you love is a must.

That's too bad nobody actually took the time to chase him and get his license plate. I've done it for a couple of people in the past. Both times it was a jackass that hit a parked car in a parking lot and decided to take off. Pissed me off when I saw that

KaiFD3S 01-17-07 11:32 AM

Sorry to hear man...I hope you find that guy that hit you ...but in any case just look at the bright side you get to spend more money...lol...J/P goodluck to your project..

KeloidJonesJr. 01-17-07 11:33 AM

Everything's going to be OKAY.

If you like be labeled as a kid, by all means, type/speak however you wish.

I would search on earth's end to find the person who did this to me. Gurnee, Illinois cant be all that big. Unless its a suburb of Chicago or other big city. Something's not adding up. G

dgeesaman 01-17-07 12:02 PM

I would do some snooping among the talon owners to find. him.

I think you should also report this to the police, so that if you find anything worth tracking down they have a stub to start from. You can't just find the guy, call the cops, and start telling the story.

unfortunatley, even if you find the guy you'd need a witness to prove it's his fault and not shared fault. His story would be that you tried to race him, and not vice-versa.

Although you would at least get him for leaving the scene of an accident. So it wouldn't help you in terms of money, but you could pin his ass anyway.

I suggest you post about your bodykit project in the Int/Ext section and link it from here.

Dave

Ouch, sorry to hear. Sounds like a nice project you're putting together though!

1QWIK7 01-17-07 01:51 PM

Sucks man.

All FD's should have full coverage.

Good luck for the future.

I think that's a little harsh, considering all he did was misspell the several times.

I would report it to the cops, but i wouldn't expect much. And i suffered a similar accident when my back end decided to go for a little walk on it's own, good luck with the repairs.

SiKoPaThX 01-17-07 01:57 PM

From the damage you describe to your suspension, I think you are definitely looking at more than $1,000 in labor to get your car back on the road. It's really tough to tell since you don't have any full pictures of the whole car, but if it's bad enough down there, generally a car like this might get written off. Either way, replacing all those suspension components, body panels, windshield, wheels, and anything else on the bottom of the car that got mangles is going to be quite pricey. I definitely wish you good luck sir.

BuffDaddy915 01-17-07 09:25 PM

Thanks guys. My mechanic ishelpin me out and hookin me up. So 1000, plus taxes and Im ready to roll. All he's doing is tha suspension and cutting off tha fender thats mangled so I can drive it home, then put on a front bumper (stock), and replace tha fender.

Thanks! I've been waitin 4 some comments.

DAYM J.J. I'm glad the damage isn't as bad as I originally thought when I saw the thread title, but even so I feel bad for you. It's also nice to see that you're taking it all in stride. I for one was extremelly pissed when I had issues with my car, but a few of my friends gave me some advice and I figured things out. In the end, honestly I'm MUCH MUCH happier with my new setup. I hope this situation turns out the same way. It definitely seems like your car will be much nicer after everythings said and done. G-luck bro!

Well....that depends of course. If you are young and have a record and are going to have to pay say....$3,000 to $5,000 a year in insurance on "the car you love", it is ONLY worth it if the car is either 1.) irreplaceable or 2.) MUCH higher valued than the yearly premium.
Talking full coverage of course. Obviously EVERYONE needs to have liability, or else they need their balls crushed.
I would imagine the guy that ran had no insurance. This happened to my parents a long time ago, dude T-boned them, damned near killed them, and ran from the scene. Of course, he made it about a mile before the lack of coolant in the radiator and the inability to STEER his fucked up truck caught up to him....lol! Turns out no insurance, no driver's license, no job....no WAY he ever had to pay my folks ANYTHING.
Sucked big time.
