So i dropped a nut in my intake port
 

yup i was changing my LIM gasket and i was getting close to done removing everything. bam i knock a bolt into my LIM and it goes into my intake port.

i have my LIM off and i can not see the bolt. you guys have any ideas on what to do? tryed a vacuum.

oh yeah the rotor is in such a way that it may be a ways down and i could not get to it.

Man thats scary:eek:, it almost happened to me too with one of the plastic solenoid plugs, but it just missed the intake ports. After that I make sure to tape or plug them up with a towel. Like john was saying I think your best bet is a magnet. But just don't crank the engine over or your screwed.

i dont know how i can get a magnet in there.....

Don't start your motor up until u find that b**ch. Otherwise you might be getting a rebuild pretty darn quick. Magnets (as johnisenglish) says, work wonders.

Yes, do not start your motor.

They sell magnets that are on a flexible neck that can reach around weird corners. GO to your local auto parts store and see what you can find.

All else fails. you will have to remove the turbos in order to remove the LIM to remove the nut!

Wow, you must *really* love your car. :) Sorry for the sick joke -- the subject just made me laugh.

A magnet thing should do the trick. Some of those grabbers or even a sticky little ball of duct tape might work if you can see the nut, but the magnet is probably the easiest way to go. I dropped a nut in my T2 LIM once and was able to get it with some grabbers on a stick.

You can get a magnet on an expandable rod or a flexiable rod from Sears for sure. They are not too terribly expensive and should be a definate in your toolbox.

Just in case you can't get it ... you could always take the turbos and turbo manifold off and try to fetch it that way. Beats pulling the motor. Regardless take caution in even barring the motor over, because that nut could bet slightly wedged and score your rotor housing pretty easily.

we took a magnet and tied a string to it and fished it out............ had to turn the engine just a tiny bit on the pullies. there was enough angle to get it out!!!!!

close one... I always put paper towels in my LIM ports as soon as I get the extension off just in case.

I bet he put towels over those ports now though! Glad you got it out man.

I remember when I was working on the car with the IM off, and was thinking man that would suck if I dropped something down there. And didn't bother to cover it being lazy and all, then I went to working on the wiring and one of the plugs broke and flew off and it sounded like it went down a tube, clunk clunk I was like :eek:, thats it I'm screwed, but then I searched for an hour come to find out it went underneath the the ports somehow :confused:, and not in the ports thank god....

i managed to drop a small hose clamp down the primary port of my lim last november. my motor was cranking on the starter and it came to a sudden halt. the result was a damaged apex seal, a repairable apex groove and unrepairable rotor housing.

i pulled the motor and fished about 2/3 of the clamp out the exhaust port. my eyeballs were pretty wide as i withdrew the magnet after fishing around and there was this hoseclamp attached to it. the other third was only removable after engine disassembly.

i will make sure never to leave the lim ports exposed in the future. and lock the barn door too:)

yeah its crazy what a simple action like that can do, 2 seconds of stupidity can cost you 2,000$ worth of damage, never again for me will I take chances.

yeah i shoved alot of paper towels in there.

when i was working on the car we put bolts in contaners so we dont lose any........ the one friggeng bolt that was not in a contairer was on the front windshild and somehow i brushed it right into the port.

but now no matter what paper towles go into the holes!!!!!!!

Clip is down primary port - HELP!
 

I've been reading this thread, and have a similar problem on my 3rd gen rx7. I am in the process of fitting the Ground Zero LIM, and managed to dislodge/drop what looks like a little clip (from looking at what's in the other primary port with the help of a mirror!) down one of the primary ports. I was attempting to seal off the this port with a piece of cloth and didn't realise that the port had something sitting in it! Doh! Can someone please tell me what this clip thing is, and what its purpose? I can't find it anywhere in the online manuals I've been looking at.
