Hmm...I guess I'll go look at what one goes for. Although my car is extremely stock looking, it won't look right probably, lol.
I wonder if I raised the back end of the hood up it would increase airflow ala the last Import Tuner mag I got...hahah. |

Any ways when ever I shut the engine down, I let the both intercooler fan and engine fan run for about 2 minutes, then restart it to circulate the colder coolant from the radiator into the engine for about 30 seconds the temperature drops at least 15 degrees. Then just let the inter cooler fan run another minute before turning it off. The temperature, even in summer goes about 150 F and will not rise over 160 F. The only hassle is sitting in the FD for those 4 minutes, but it is well worth the wait. PM me if you want to do the by-pass and inter-cooler setup, I live in Honolulu too and may have seen your FD every now and then... |
i would just set the key to acc, then flip the ac on to 1 (so the fans kick on) I know with my tuning the primary fan kicks on at 81 and the second at 88 or so. i have the some thing too. im not too famaliar with the way the routing is for the coolant though. what good does having the fans on do if the thermoastat doesnt open?

Instead of doing a fan mod, what about setting up some type of radiator cooling with a Cry02 Cooling Kit? Before shutting down, give your radiator a fierce blast of cooling to help lower the water temperature, then shut it down?
Sounds alot easier than a fan mod, even though you have to deal with the hassle of filling the bottle. My car is just a weekend warrior so it wouldn't be that big of a deal? I'm personally already quite familiar with nitrous setups and it's not much difference as long as you keep it away from your intake. If I use a PFS or M2 box then it would take care of the C02 issue. It's not too expensive either...I'm sure it would help on really scorching, hot days for sure, and in emergency situations where the water temp gets too high? http://www.designengineering.com/pro...asp?m=sc&cid=1 http://www.designengineering.com/ima...Kit_Web_30.jpg http://www.designengineering.com/ima...parison300.jpg After some thought, I think this might work but it would be a last resort after doing a hood switcharoo, a second oil cooler, etc. |
Didnt read all the posts, so im not sure if my question has already been asked/stated
Do you allow the car to run for a minute or two before shut down? Generally I'll drive mine and have temps close to 90 C or so, I'll arrive at my destination, allow the car to run for a few minutes, and shut the car off at usually 80-81 degrees C. |
Yeah...the heatsoak still exists. I think maybe one of my fans is weak and the motor needs to be replaced, possibly.
|
Heatsoak is just a fact of life with a non-vented hood on a stock turbo'd FD. We did a ground up overhaul on an otherwise stock FD and sure enough temps would skyrocket to about 106c even after light cruising.

Thanks for the pointer...I'll look into doing it after I replace my radiator fan motors and blades. One of the water hoses dropped to low...the zip tie must have popped. Left a big azz rub mark on it...wooooo! The efficiency of the motor may be a factor so I'm going to pull it and replace it.

hey every1 i am kind of having the same problem ex. the car runs good when im driven then i stoped for about 5 mins with the car still running and everything pissed out of the bottom dunno where from cuz i changed all hoses its a new koyo rad. and i got a new tstat but the one i got were from advanced auto parts and now people r telling me to take it back and get the oem one cuz the aftermarket one wont work and if this dont work i dunno what the hell im goin to do :-/
can any1 help me also lol lou |
^ make a new thread that's easier to read and provides more detail about the car (and mods), what the problem is, and what you tried in an effort to solve it.
