So..Can I do this install?
 

I am trying to save money with all of my shop fees and such for a single turbo set-up. Well Steve Kan is coming to town soon and I need to get some other things done. Hopefully, I can do them.

I need your guys' advice. I need to install my Power FC and rx7store.com fuel system. Are these things that I would be able to do by myself? I am not a mechanic or anything like that. I enjoy changing my oil and have installed things such as intakes, stereo systems, exhaust systems, and others for friends and myself. I guess I am just asking, HOW elaborate these items are and if I would or should even try to attempt them. I'm a little intimidated and need some honest opinions. Thanks!

All you have to do is unplug 4 connectors(i think dont remember) and then plug them back into the power fc.


with some SEARCHING installing the fuel stuff wont be a problem. hardest thing is taking all the shit apart to reach the fuel system but you have to do this anyways to get rid of the rats nest. it is time comsuming but not hard IMO

I understand that there is a search on the site. I use it all the time and I believe to have never started a thread. This is not a question of how to do it, but if I am truly capable. The installs don't really mention what I could mess up or "how difficult" they truly are. Sure it may just says to "plug them in" or "take this part out." But there has to be something that I could mess up possibly. Sorry that my searching did not produce me a better result to my personal question...

its IMPOSSIBLE to screw up the power fc install. the plugs will be hard to remove so expect that to be a bitch to do. the plugs only go in one way.

i wasnt saying ur questions could of been answered by searching, just saying that if u feel stuck the answers are on here.

it is a personal question. idk if u can do it but i say try it.

there is nothing hard you will be doing, just takes a few hours. like i said plenty of people have been down this road and can help if u feel you messed something up.

if it helps i knew nothing about cars a when i bought mine and now feel silly that i ever doubted i could work on my car. so far ive done just about everything but install a single turbo on my car.

power fc is dirt easy to install just mounting it is somewhat hard. i just used doublesided tape and taped on the stock brackets. read some of the how to's on removing the uim and then the fuel rail will pretty much be there. i had no experience on working on cars and didnt even know how to change oil when i rebuilt my motor.

How are we supposed to know if you are capable or not? If you are that concerned about it, take it to a shop where you'll know it'll be done right. The fuel system is nothing to fuck around with if you are clueless....it can and has caused MANY engine fires.

If you read the write-ups here and it sounds too difficult, then don't do it. Quite frankly, a lot of people on here do their own work....and not everyone should! (There is a LOT of ghetto or poorly done work out there!)

The power fc hardware install took me about 20mins. I kicked myself for a week afterwards for putting it off. If you installed your own computer (monitor, cpu, keyboard & mouse) you can install a power fc.

If you doubt yourself try to find a local member that has one to walk you through it.

As for the fuel bits- i've never done that so i can't offer any advice.

I recommend NOT messing with the fuel system. It seems like one of those "If you have to ask, then the answer is no" things. On other cars it might not be a big deal, but the RX-7's engine bay gets so hot that a small fuel leak could cause a huge disaster.

the power fc is a simple thing to install. Only hard part is unplugging the connectors. I'm a small guy at 5'5 140 and I thought I could fit under the passenger side. I had to unplug the PFC yesterday to pull the wiring harness through the firewall. Just unplugging it took longer than getting it through the firewall. You just gotta know how to pull the connectors out.

The fuel system is another story. If you don't have a great understanding of how all of it works under the UIM then I don't suggest you do this yourself.

The Power FC install is uber easy. Just have to remove a couple of wires from the harness and mount it and your golden. I'm sure if you would like some help with your fuel system there are plenty of rotary buffs near Olympia that would be more than willing to lend a hand for a couple beers.

I think the guy is actually asking for the pfc settings,after the install.If hes just wondering about the installation,then its a piece of cake.
