Smoking from twins - oil in chamber while in storage

hi guys,
this is not the typical smoke from twins thread. basically i had an REW that i stored for years...with MMO in the chambers to keep seals loose. i also added about a teaspoon of regular oil before starting to help start up for the first time.

my question is...how long does it typically take to burn off this oil? i've gone through one heat cycle (idling only) so far and noticed the smoke in the engine bay coming from the twins which i would assume to be the oil i had put in the engine. i'll be heat cycling it a few more times to see if it clears itself up and verify it's not your typical smoking twins issue but just wanted to see what others have experienced. thanks.

Hard to say, it can take a while for not just internal but external oil to burn off. I'd say a good hour of sitting and idling or so.

Whenever I start a fresh motor it takes a while for everything to burn off, not just internal oils but external greasy fingerprints, WD-40, PB Blaster, etc.

Agreed. Anything that happened to drain or otherwise fall and make contact with your manifold over those years will burn. I changed a coolant hose out last fall and must have dribbled a little coolant on mine. I didn't make note of the time, but it smoked quite a while.

Speaking of that, have you changed the coolant and oil yet?

thanks guys. i'll keep heat cycling it until it hopefully clears up.

sgtblue, if your asking me if i changed coolant and oil, yes. fluids are fresh as can be. only fluid left to change is brake fluid.
