Smokey Rx7

Hey guys i finished my build, everything new but ive always had the problem when im just driving around at like 4500rpm i shift i hear POP and smoke starts coming out then 10 secs later it stops. i have a catch can, new single turbo injectors ,pump, rail ,intercooler, fpr everything needed in a single swap , i just dont know why its always done that POP then smoke comes out .

i really need your guys help i appreciate anyone who chimes in !

thanks,
kevin

How is your catch can routed? Also off your oil filler neck what did you do with the those two lines?

okevin 09-13-12 01:11 PM

thanks for chiming in, my catch can has to openings, one i use it for ventilation and the other one i have it on the bottom nipple from the filler neck

Last motor that did that to me blew apex seals in under a mile.

weird cars running beautifully, just that issue im not sure , can it be the OMP pushing to much oil ? cause i wouldnt mind ripping it out, block off plate and pre-mixing

RotaryEvolution 09-13-12 02:01 PM

backfiring can be caused by either too much fuel in the exhaust(rich maps) or a lean decel issue.

if the smoke is white or grey it is likely unrelated to the backfiring and an oil restrictor issue in your turbo oil feed system. a little smoke is fine if you're pushing the turbo hard but 10 seconds worth is excessive.

okevin 09-13-12 02:11 PM

Oh alright but my precision turbo came with a restrictor , and I'm not loosing coolant , and it doesn't happen much in boost it's just randomly while changing gears , thanks for the reply

check the turbo for thrust play and make sure oil isn't pooling up in the line to your oil catch can.

okevin 09-13-12 06:46 PM

hey rotary evolution, my turbo brand new, ill check the oil lines . and ill double check the catch can, what nipple should i use the one horizontal or vertical , also i did a run just for my friend to see what color smoke it is, it pops black and then gradually fades to white ,

thank you so much for helping me dude all of you

RotaryEvolution 09-13-12 06:51 PM

then it's likely your tuning, too rich.

the catch can line doesn't matter which nipple you just don't want the line to sag and create a spot for oil to pool in.

gotcha! thanks for the fast replies also, might it be a blown apex seal, i doubt it but can it be a possibility ? also im sorry for shooting you with so many questions , me and my dad relocated the battery to the trunk but for some reason , the car keeps stalling the only way i can keep it from stalling is stepping on the gas abit, i before the car stalls i had a voltage meter and it read 11.7 from the power fc and 11.6-11.8 on the volt meter, and when we rev it and hold it at or over a bit 1k rpm's the alternator starts to charge and it goes too 14.6ish

RotaryEvolution 09-13-12 07:18 PM

could be a blown seal if it is having idle issues as well. try a compression test on it before worrying about anything else. a new map won't fix the smoke/backfiring issue if the engine has a bad seal.

okevin 09-13-12 07:23 PM

just did the apex seal test it runs good so it aint an apex seal, now the alternator is the only issue why its just stalling and not charging at idle

was in the process of doing it to be sure, did some reading while you replied and everything seems to turn right no grinding , or WOOOh WOOOh sounds
