Smoke on start-up / idle
My Fd is smoking pretty good on start-up and at idle. It is a bluish oil smoke that clears up when rev'd up. Do the OMP stepping motors go out often? Anybody who has had a similar problem that has some advice to give would be apreciated. By the way: I have a single turbo settup, so it's not coming from the common twin turbo seals.

Hows yoru coolant level? Mine does the same thing and i am loosing my coolant o rings.

I burn blue smoke at WOT (in between shifts) and a little bit a idle. It's time to rebuild my turbos no biggie.
In your case it doesn't seem to be the turbos since you don't smoke under load, but one thing is for sure you are burning oil.

yeah, coolant should burn more white. My engine is a fresh reman, about 1,500 miles on it, so it shouldn't be anything internally. The only two things I can think that are causing it are either the omp system or the pcv system.

I had the same problem with a fresh reman and turbo rebuild, but mostly on startup. I started running the oil level in the crankcase at half on the crosshatch part of the dipstick rather than close to the top, installed a breather in the oil filler cap and put another 500mi on the car. Now it really doesn't smoke at all except for a really small puff on startup if it sits for a week or 2.

Thanks tom.jelly, I'll try that

before experimenting with venting your oil filler cap you can rubberband a piece of cloth over the oil filler neck to act as a vent and so nothing gets in there.
