Smog pump removal question with ecu
If i remove the smog pump while still running my pettit racing ecu, will it still run rich? Also, can i remove the cat while im at it?

in theory, with no air pump, it would run richer (at low RPM) because its not pumping extra air in there leaning it out.
You should be able to remove the cat, but just keep a close eye on your boost level afterwards, to make sure your not boost creeping, and if you are; add some restriction back into the intake or exhaust. Most times it will be fine, but what is fine on one car isnt always fine on another. Our cars are individuals :) |

Back when I was running an M2 ECU, removing the air pump made my idle funky and added some weird low end hesistation. You could live with it if you wanted though. YMMV.

it will run just fine, don't worry about it

No, it won't.
The stock ECU (the Pettit is just a stock ECU with better maps) compensates for air pump air in the exhaust whenever the air pump is running and the car is in closed loop. With no air pump you get a rough idle and rough on/off the gas. Unplug the power connector to your air pump and drive around a bit. That will let you experience it without having to take it off. I accidentally popped the fuse for the air pump once a LONG time ago and I thought my car was broken it drove so crappy. You can pull the air pump with a PowerFC all day long, though and it will drive great. Dale |
