Slight backfire
Hey guys my engine is done and I have been carefully bring my engine in. its a 3rd gen R2 and the mods on the engines are 3mm seals and street port. Well I was wondering my car would back fire once your on the gas and you let off fast it has a slight backfire out of the exhaust, what would I be checkin to fix this backfire. Is it normail because of the streetport and using stock ecu? or is there something I can look at to fix the backfire???

Sounds like you're running rich. What are the rest of your mods?

Greddy intake, PF intercooler, and thats it so far.

check the dashpot,,,i adjusted mine and it cured the backfires (think the throttle slamming shut can cause fireballs),,,

STOCK ECU on a ported engine....

A dashpot slowly decreases the throttle on your car when you let off the gas instead of just cutting it off.

I think you need an ecu soon ;)

Mine is doing just the same. I reduced it a lot by sealing the 2 exhaust gaskits. My specialists is also saying that my cathalitic converter is very dirty and that is what is causing the rest of the backfireing. I will soon change it with a downpipe though and will see how it fare. I am just waiting to see what my countyr's new emission regulations will be.
