sleepy light how to?
 

is there a sleepy head light how to anywhere? Maybe a diagram showing the disassembly of the headlights and such?

I'm considering tackling this project during winter break and want to know what I'm gettin into. Hopefully I'll still have access to the school machine shop at that time :) Any one know how to use a CNC machine? lol

you just manual turn it up, cheapest and easiest way hehe

lol yeah thats easy, but I wanted to fab them so they retract like normal. like the KS kit, or Kevin Bacons lights.

I think I have access to anything I'll need. A have access to the machine shop at school, a friend of mine can do fiberglass if I want a nice lookin front cover, another friend of mine can get me some carbon fiber from the composites lab if I want to do anything with that, and I live down the street from a hardware store.

I just want to know what I'm gettin into before I open things up. I dont want to go in blind. :)

one way to do it is to just adjust the headlight retractor strut. you can also buy an eletronic kit for it

yeah, it just seems like if you shortened the retracting rod by an inch or two that it would shorten the pop-up light heighth by a considerable amount so that you could the mount some low/high beams in there

Just for reference, Bacon's kit didn't/couldn't retract. As far as I know, he just mounted smaller lights in the stock housing and manually adjusted the height.

You should PM rx7even. He probably one of the few who could help you with a project like this. As you might know, he's been working on a kit similar to the Knight Sport kit.

take apart the motor assembly and shorten the conductive strip with some tape. no machining or fabrication required.

Coudl you further explain this? Perhaps with pretty diagrams? :D

Or pull the retractor fuse while hitting the 'headlight open/close' button on the dash.

And BTW, whats the "sleepy light" thing? Is that where the headlights are only like 1/2 up? Like in this pic? (sorry it's so big, only one I could find)

That is Sarge's car, you should ask him about it if thats the thing you're talking about.

yeah that's knightsport headlight mod. I like it a lot. I know a lot of fd owners have tried something similar, but it never came out as this one. If someone came up with one for cheeper, i would deffinetely get it.

You can get a "Pivot RHM-U headlight controller"...... With this you can adjust the height of the lights (and they still go down to the normal "off" position when the lights are off) from the inside of your car. My friend bought them for his MR2 but it is compatible with other cars as well(There is a miata on the cover of the package).

Thanks for the info. This was actully gonna be my second option but I'm consdiering it more now since it'll be easy to return to stock if I use this.

I drove on the highway with my headlights setup "sleepy" style and the stock hood was lookn like it was gonna get yanked off at 70mph.

thats pretty scary, and I really dont like hood pins.
