Six flashes of air bag light?
 

I started the car for the first time in a while, but the airbag light seems to be giving me an error code. It flashes six times.

I have a Power FC. What could this be?

Hey friend! Run for the hills before you get flamed for not using the search function. ;)

In the meantime, below is something I found after doing a quick search. If you haven't done anything recently w your steering wheel, you likely have a faulty air bag module. (Note: Starting to see more related posts like these as the original modules simply age in our cars over time.)

^A good tutorial for assessing the air bag module and replacing electrical components on its aging computer board. Whoever decides to get into the 'refurbishing air bag diagnostic module' business could potentially make some easy dough on this forum. Ditto for the aging CPU2 computer boards. Just sayin'! :)

turns out it was because I removed the ABS control unit.... put it back on and it went away.

What ABS do you mean? Air Bag diag module or Anti-lock Brake System CPU? The abbreviation of SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) is commonly used for the Air Bag.

The anti-lock brake control unit in the back of the hatch.

You did not stutter. I could not see how removing the ABS CPU would affect the Air Bag. Those 2 systems are not tied into one another. They do share a common connector, X-18. That is found behind/underneath the instrument cluster. Did you inspect that connector as part of your troubleshooting? I am unaware of what Series FD you have or the applicable schematics given your location is set to Japan.

Don't ask me. But I assume unplugging the ABS CPU, which has a GIANT connector, probably affected a bunch of other circuits.

It's a 96 JDM car, which makes it a 4th-gen (chuuki) FD.

Guess I might as well find some new ABS sensors to make it work again...
