Single Turbo Set Up or Twin Turbo Set Up?

I currently own a 93 FD, which is bone stock.

I am looking to modify the car soon, and I have still have not made my mind up yet on wheather to go with a dual turbo charger set up or go with a big single turbo set up.

Please post your opinions and Pros and Cons about both set ups.

As well I was wondering if it is possible to make a large amount of power with the dual turbo charger set up, or is it limited?

What options do I have with aftermarket Dual Turbo Chargers? Where can I purchase Dual turbo chargers to produce the WRHP stated below. Also will 650WRHP cause alot of problems if I choose to go with the dual Turbo Charger set up?

Im looking to make some where around 650 WRHP.

650 huh? Might wanna look into getting a Supra. Not that 650 can't be done, but I honestly can't see the point... Where did you get that number anyway?

Just looking to hit anywhere from 550 to 650 WRP

I am just currious to see if it is possible to do so.

So you just want to put the rwhp from about 220 (if your car is 100%) to 650? Do you realize that 650 rwhp would be damn near unstreetable, would require race gas, wouldn't make good boost till after 4000 rpm, etc.

Start with baby steps. Spend a couple hundred hours reading this site and www.scuderiaciriani.com. Mod the car a step at a time. Many of the mods you need to run a modified twin car are also required for a single turbo, so it's a good strategy.

Also, running over 400 rwhp starts getting into the well over $10k range and up.

What type of high horsepower sports cars have you owned or driven??

LoL, wait a sec Im 1985 and al I want is 350 something must be wrong with the next generation =P

Quiggs 03-31-04 01:53 PM

It was just a question.

Supras and Skylines can hit that range pretty easily, from what I have read.

My question was really about, would it be better to go single or dual for that kind of HP?

Nope something's wrong with you too. Look at what you just wrote which I'm guessing is supposed to be a sentence...

My biggest concern at 18 was how to get 650.......dollars to buy my first car. :)

Supras and Skylines also have lots of displacement. It's way easier to get that kind of power (reliable power) from one of those cars. You should continue reading. Not trying to bust your balls... But when you talk RX7's you rarely talk about 600 HP, hell we don't even see 500 very often. Sure it happens, but only once in a while. Damn near every Supra I've ever seen had over 500...

On these cars, shooting for numbers like that, it wouldn't matter which setup you use... One or two turbos. Either way, they'll have to be huge, and the car will be pretty worthless for anything more than trailer trips to the dyno and dragstrip.

How bout starting another thread. This time, asking what suspension setup will keep the FD in the top of the ranks in the class it belongs. :)

It'd be better for you to listen or perhaps have better reading comprehension. People have already told you that it's a "needle in the haystack" to find a rotary making that much hp no matter what size turbo, much less a 13B. Much less having someone who obviously knows very little of rotary motors build something that makes that much RWHP. You're not taking anything into account seriously, reliability/ streetability/$$ needed to obtain those HP levels/etc , which tells me that you just plain lack common sense..

Well, sorry for harshing on you then.. :)

fastcarfreak 03-31-04 02:20 PM

dude, you have definately got a lot to learn. People who are making that kind of numbers have a lot more then any teenager can afford. My guess is, you prolly wont even be able to come up with the loot to afford your first engine rebuild (which will prolly come very soon). Where in NY are you from? Im from Syracuse. Anything over 300 rwhp in these cars are going to be more then most people can handle. Even at 300 and some change you wont get traction till 3rd gear. Just do some of the basic mods first. Reliability mods should always come first. Then get an ecu and run exhaust intake and that should be more then you can handle. Trust me.

blueskaterboy 03-31-04 02:28 PM

skylines and supras are also much heavier and need the hp to make up for it. "from what you've read" you mean like super street, import tuner, etc.? they also had an article about an 800hp rx7, writers who make the same joke about their coworkers' homosexuality every month, and know how to change their oil.

and why the hell do you need 650hp anyway? that would be like what a 9 second car? compared to a supra that would probably be a second slower with the same hp. its possible but you need lots of money... LOTS OF MONEY!

you should be thankful people on this forum have not responded quite as harshly as they could have. read more about rotary cars, then ask questions.
