single turbo?

noobie here, could someone explain the advantages/disadvantages cost/benefit and all that of going to a single turbo? and what are SMIC/FMIC?

newbie :) single turbo = tons of power. SMIC = stock mount interecooler. FMIC = front mount intercooler

Unless you want to make over 350 RWHP there is no benefit to going with a single turbo. It will cost you a lot of money to get properly setup with a single (>$5K) and it will give you a lot of headaches until you get everything sorted out and tuned properly. I'm not sure what else you need to know but that is basically it in a nut shell.

Single turbo=completely different monster

Advantages=hose elimination, secondary transition eliminated, frees up room in engine compartment, run higher boost, simplifies turbo system, easier to diagnose then twins.

Disadvantages=cost, cost, cost, cost. Lag(big single), need competent tuner, need to upgrade practically everything, oh and cost

I have a question. Iam looking for your opinions on which single turbo company is best. Greddy, XS, HKS, I am also looking to convert but They all seem the same, but vary in cost so much.
