Simple Question?
 

Well it has been raining here for couple of days and it's also very cold. I put two car covers on my fd and since i don't have a garage it's siting outside.

I was just wondering, How long can i keep it that way without starting the car? It's around 30-40 degrees and it looks like it's gonna snow soon. I have half a tank of fuel in it, the oil is ok and antifreez as well.

So just wondering how long could i go safely without starting her, so there won't be any problems with the turbos or something later?

i dont think its gonna be much to worry about. What have you done to your car? Remember, the car was originally designed for a "common" market. Us rx7 owners on the forum are not that.

as long as its not sitting with salt all over the underside.

If you're going to have it sitting for more than a week or two I'd try to make sure the gas tank is full. Also, be careful of letting the snow melt through the cover. All the dirt and contaminants will sit on your paint against the cover and if the wind blows the cover it will act like sandpaper.

Before I had a garage, I used to keep my FD outside (the only place I could) over winter with a cover. I would start it once a month and let it run until operating temps.

The car will be fine. If you aren't driving it for months, just start it up once ever 3-4 weeks...

Starting it, and driving it every couple of weeks would be a good idea. You don't want anything siezing up on you. Also, you don't want flat spots on your tires from sitting in one place for months.

Put a good coat of wax on the car. It should help the paint.

Winter is coming. Your FD will be fine if you just move someplace warm. Life is too short to spend 6-7 months FD-less.

Just to let you know, putting on TWO car covers may do more damage. Why? Think about this. A "good" standard car cover is supposed to keep the rain off your car. But at the same time, it is supposed to allow for some moisture to evaporate off the car and through the cover. When you put a second layer, sure you're keeping the rain out better, but you're also making it harder to let the moisture (that is already on/around the car) out.

It is like wearing two pairs of underwear. How would you feel if you did this? Ewwww.

Another example. How many sheets of clear plastic wrap (AKA Saran Wrap or Reynolds Wrap) do you use to cover food? I'm willing to bet you put on one sheet as opposed to two.

Put a nice coat of wax on the car and then put ONE cover on it.

Well i got one from mazdatrix, it came with the car, it's not that good either. It lets rain throught when it's on the car. It's also very tight around the car, it fits very well.

The other one i got from auto zone and it's not made for my car, infact it's bigger. So that theory of yours about two pair of underwear is not like that.
It's like underwear and then pants. One is very tight it goes over the body and the other one goes over that one. It's biger and it can breath.

Anyway i got the answer that i want. I'll start it every friday or saturday for 10 min and that should do it.
