Silicone Vacuum hose Kit
 

Hi do you guys recommend and or use any of the silicone vacuum line kits for the fd? Specifically on ebay?

a little pricey? But worth the buy? To fix and replace any and all factory vacuum hoses?

good news for the fd is the compression number turned out surprisingly very good! It’s like 107-115 both rotors. But still runs very rich and most likely would be a good idea to replace and or change all the vacuum lines next to help the car run betteR!

That kit is WAY overkill. Also it's hopefully of good quality but who knows.

Boost controller.com has some top quality vacuum hose for a good price. Get 20 feet of 3.5mm and 10 feet of 6mm and you'll have plenty.

Vacuum hose job most likely won't fix running rich. How do you know it's rich? What's the symptoms? It's probably something else you need to be looking into.

Also, with the vacuum hose job, the existing hoses in the rat's nest that are baked on there aren't going anywhere, leave them alone. Ones that are loose or coming off, replace with silicone. If you try and do the job on the car you'll probably break solenoid nipples and have a bigger problem to deal with.

The brighter colors of vacuum hose look good at first but they get very dirty over time. Black is always a solid way to go.

I wouldn't buy that. Go to boostcontroller.com and order some 3.5, 4, 6, and 8mm hose in your color choice. Its high quality and affordable.

I bought this kit back in 2018 from the same seller on ebay. I was quite happy with it, and the hosing is of fantastic quality. I got blue lines and while they do get a little dirty sometimes, they generally maintain a good look.

I replaced all vacuum hosing, and still had some hosing left over so I used it for the washer fluid lines.

Good to know. There's a lot of bad SVH out there, I'd prefer someone get it from a known good source with a good price.

Blue doesn't get too dirty looking, yellow and red definitely do. I had red on my FC back in the day and it looked like crap over time.

Good SVH is thick walled so it won't kink on a tight bend, doesn't split easily, and fits right (3.5mm). The stuff from boost controller.com checks all those boxes.

Also, no sense getting a giant pile of it you aren't going to use. Really 20 feet of 3.5 and 10 feet of 6mm is plenty to do the job.

Yeah, you definitely get a lot of hosing from the HPSI guys. Its got nice thick walls and I didn't have any issues with kinking or splitting. Also had a good tight fit.

If OP isn't planning on doing a complete hose job then you are right that this kit doesn't make sense. But from a quality perspective at least I think it's good stuff.

Wow thanks a lot guys! Okay so good news is the compression check read really well surprisingly!
the car is obviously fouled out due to rich fuel (you can really smell it and it runs like it’s misfiring and not clean/smooth
the compression numbers read

rotor 1: 111, 114, 107
rotor 2: 114, 115, 117

it was done w a rotary specific compression reader.

ive just started to take off things to try to prep to replace the vacuum lines. And damn there are so many!! Good to know a good and maybe cheaper source w good quality from boostcontroller.com

It’s a 55k mile almost bone stock car! Would you guys leave it factory like and keep all the vacuum hose stock set up? Or can I should I get rid of a lot of them?

il compare prices before I buy the complete silicone kit off of that eBay seller.

I’m not planning to sell this right away but from a resale stand point is the value higher if the car was kept pretty much as close to stock?

i was contemplating on getting an air intake kit greddy or whatever and maybe other upgrades (intercooler? Etc) but maybe not to keep it close to stock?

yes its worth more stock. why do you think the car running weird has anything to do with the vacuum hoses?

I would replace the vacuum lines for lines that are going to/from the intake manifold, MAP sensor, etc. - ones that are commonly disconnected when working on the car. Ones deep in the rat's nest just leave them be.

I would also replace the check valves, PM'ing you on that.

Have you put new spark plugs in? Verified that the plug wires are on properly?

Has it always run rich since you got it or is it new?

If you're concerned with value changing some of the vacuum lines and check valves won't negatively affect value IMHO.

Thanks guys! The car has always acted this way even from my friend (previous owner). He said sometime it wouldn’t start on him. But it starts and runs ok as long as I give it some gas on start up and every so often on idle.

the plugs are pretty black.. the blue plug wires are on the two top plugs and the black wires I think are the two bottom wires if I remember ? Will double check again.

and I heard the plugs are T and L? From the compression tester told me. L I remembered are for the bottom two plugs and T are for the top two(blue wired plugs?)

I’ll look up how to take off and replace the wires (got some New ngk Wires passed down from my friend.)
and change the plugs as well as the vacuum to the sensors like boost etc.
and if I can get to the rats nest lines and replace them I will just so I know they are as replaced and ok as possible. 😲 🤔
