should i buy this car?

there is a 93 rx7 for sale in my town. it has 100,000 miles on it and they want $10,000. should i get this car or is there too many miles on it? I don't want to have to replace things as soon as I get it

Then you are shopping for the wrong type of car my friend. ;)

auburnjosh 12-10-03 05:42 PM

basically the only thing i'm worried about is the turbo's going. how much would it cost to replace turbos if they burn up?

djantlive 12-10-03 05:46 PM

turbo replacement is around $3k, engine $5-6k - parts and labor.

At 100k mi, if both are stock, you are looking at 20k mi of life left if you are lucky. Walk away unless it's in pristine shape bc replacing both will basically cost you another $9k and with $19K, you can get a 94 or 95 with very little miles.

why do people buy this car of there are so many problems with them?

Because it's one of the best sports cars ever made and damn good looking to boot. If it's not for you, move on to something else.

Probably because the price is low, so it sounds like a cheap ticket to get a fast car. Isn't that what drew you to it?

If you are willing to spend more on the price of the car, then you can avoid replacing some things & worrying about it.

Obviously, you have yet to drive one. ;)

If you don't already know the answer then you don't need to be shopping for an RX-7.

Do us all a favor and go buy a Honda.

auburnjosh 12-10-03 06:17 PM

i don't want a damn honda. I've always had a camaro and want a rx7 now. I know they are fast as shit and look awesome. I go to Auburn University, which is an hour and a half from Atlanta. Is there anyone in Atlanta, Birmingham, or Montgomery that will be willing to help me if I decide to go with this car?

teamstealth 12-10-03 06:20 PM

Ditto what FormerPorscheGuy and Majhik said. remember this car is 10 years old. Be prepared to replace things :)

chloe 12-10-03 06:23 PM

There really isn't enough detail in your posts for anyone to be able to tell if you should buy that car or not. I'm not too familiar with the Atlanta area, but if there is a rotary specialist nearby why not get them to take a look at the car? If that isn't a possiblity at least try to find out a little bit more about the car's history and mechanical condition. Are you mechanically inclined? If not, owning an rx7 can be quite a challenge. Good luck to you.

I love when people say turbo replacement is around 3k...you sound like a dealership. You can buy good used turbos for as low as 300 bucks...I did. You can make an insane sigle turbo kit for far less than 3000. Aren't the BNR stage 3s just a bit over 2k.

Are you fucking kidding me??? :weed:

turbo $1000+
manifold thats not shit $700
computer to control the shit $1000+
Intercooler and piping $1000+
Fuel upgrade $800
downpipe $200+
Wastegate $300
Pullys $80
block off plates $50
Intake and misc fittings $200+

This is probably BARE minimum to do a single upgrade.

ditto!!! btw millage means nothing, its about how much compression the engine has and how the guy drove it and took care of it, i have seen cars with like 23k miles beaten to shit and cars with over 70k miles still in fantastic condition.

also, 10k for a fd in relativly good condition, it is a pretty good deal.

I suggest you read this link:

everything is stock. the only thing that has been done was new injectors were put in. If the car's compression checks out to be around 9.0:1 and it doesn't smoke, do you think I should get the car?

No one can tell you whether you should get the car or not. You need to read the FAQ's and make a decision if it's the car for you or not.

No, dump the money into the Camaro and make it faster than any RX-7 around.

fd3s_rx7 12-11-03 01:13 AM

If you are in college and money is a problem, then owning a FD could just cause you more miserable to life.

I considered myself a lucky one, because I'm only 18 and everything is always under mom and pop control. All I have to worry about is gas and going to school!!!

You either get "it" or you don't....if you have to ask the question, then perhaps you don't and something more mainstream would be to your liking. Lots of Honda's out there for the taking.
