Should heat shield be used for a CF hood?
 

Bought a Vis KS alleged "CF" hood from the same ebay store Carbon Creation that Damian bought from. The delivery took about 4 days total to door. $600.00.


The exterior surface is CF, the interior is fiberglass FG. The exterior has really good glossy epoxy gel over the CF. The epoxy is good enough that I don't think I'll paint it. Not yet.

However, the CF on the other side doesn't have any epoxy on it. Regardless, the FG bracing covers most of this exposed CF anyway.

Haven't fitted the hood yet as I'm debating whether to add some kind of heat shield fabric on the underside of the hood onto the FG.

What happens if there is no heat shield, would it soften or damage the FG, especially if the FG is not high temperature FG?

I don't know terribly much, but I would find out how old the hood is. I think both CF and FG have to cure for a week+ to harden. Chances are you don't have to worry about that, it probably came from inventory.

Heat shielding certainly will not hurt. My brother has a cf hood on his FD and it gets really hot compared to mine. You'll only spend $20 and it's nice insurance. I did this to mine cause I've seen cf fade over time under heated conditions

Oh yeah, Thermo Tec sells this stuff as well as many other companies. Remember to buy really expensive high temp contact cement. The one I bought came in a can and was good enough to where I couldn't take it back off. $12 a can

Holy mackerel. Does that V-8 end up hitting any part of the engine compartment under torque?

Quick question: is that a single turbo on your LT1? (referring to the thing that looks like a T66/78 (from the size) in the lower right hand corner of your picture

Id say by the look of it there are two. One in each corner.
