shorted battery, now abs light and a/c will not work
Hi guys,
I have a 93 FD and I have a power fc installed. Just recently I crossed the jumper cable while trying to jump start my FD (pos to neg). This blew the 120amp main fuse. I replaced the main fuse, and everything seems to run just fine (whew !). However, my 4WABS light is now on, and my vent/a/c doesn't seem to blow anything out, although I can hear the blower turning on. I've checked all the fuses under the hood, and they appear to be fine. Any ideas FD gurus? Thanks, Randy |
Check the fuses under the dash?

are there more abs a/c fuses under the dash? I'm checking it tonight. I have a feeling it's something else though.

when you hear the blower is air coming out anywhere?
|
air are not comming out of the vents, actually this needs more investigating, could be a seperate problem for a/c, i do hear something starting up in the engine bay when I turn on the vent/ac.

I had this same problem after I blew my main fuse. It turned out to be the fuse for the rear-wiper, which for some reason is connected to the abs light and fans. I ignored it when checking the fuses, I figured "who cares about the rear-wiper?" but when I replaced it all my problems were solved.

Is there a chance that the reason why my compressor stopped working was because one of my fuses under the driver dash blew? My cigarette lighter's fuse blew after I tried using the portable vacuum cleaner and that when the AC compressor stopped working from that day on.

your ac switch does turn your fans on so thats probably what you are hearing. |

Thank you everyone !! |
Problem fixed, it was the rear wiper fuse

If ever anyone has the ABS light on and non-working a/c (the blower will run but the a/c switch will not light) check the rear wiper fuse under the dash! I had to confirm it with the schematics at the time. |
Another thing to note is the ROOM fuse supplies power to the constant non switched on 12 volts to the stereo, trip odometer, security light, and the key light on the ignition.
I didn't disconnect the battery when installing my new head unit (I figured I am the man an could do this with out shorting anything, wrong!). Blew the room fuse and it took a second to figure out why my stereo would lose it settings and the trip odo stopped keeping track of the trip miles. I had no idea the room fuse supplied the constant non-switched 12 volts. I thought I had a wiring problem. |
