B&M

:bigthumb: or the Gotham Racing's short shifter, i believe they are the same?

Jay7 Nyc 07-26-04 10:16 PM

gothamracing.com or b&m shifter..

obviousboy 07-26-04 10:29 PM

just got the gotham racing short shifter....
but a new busing from Malloy mazda (7 bucks)

bolt it up......throw it around for 20 minutes...then go driving
for the first couple weeks i had mine in in constantly shifted 1-2-3-4-5 then 5-4-3-2-1 (at lights and what ever)
this broke it in real good and real fast

I just looked up the gotham shifter on their website. Is it really a bolt on? I can use all the other existing parts? boots, bolts, knob, etc... Any drilling needed? I hear from some folks that it works really well... I just hope it isn't a PITA to install...

I am using the Mazdatrix short shifter.

Very pleased with it.

Works flawlessly. Takes 10 minutes (max) to install.

:)

Oh, you have a manual? Haha, judging by your SN, I always thought you had the 4spd auto. But yeah, they bolt RIGHT in, all of the stuff is included. You can reuse your shifter bushing, but it is better if you just replace it. It's ~$3 from Malloy Mazda.

lol... no way... no automatics for me. Hey guys, just another follow up question. Forgive me if this is redundant. After reading the shop manual and looking at the Mazdatrix video for installation for the shifters, they refer to the addition of "oil". I assume this is tranny oil? possibly Red Line Gear oil? Exactly what kind do you guys use there? Where can I get it? Thanks...

I just ordered the gotham racing short shifter, it's only $119 right now!! I will let you know how it turns out when I get it installed.

Yeah, it's basically gear oil. You can usually get it at any autostore. 75w90 should be fine.

i think i have decided to go with a C's shifter (just to throw another one in the mix)

Anyone know anything about this shifter. It's started on e-bay with a buy-it -now price of $59.00!

Looks identical to the B&M or Gotham shifter as far as I can tell...

RX7SpiritR 07-28-04 04:31 PM

yeah, I wouldn't doubt it works the same. I got a B&M and haven't been able to test it yet since I still haven't gotten my car back. But once I get it back I'll let you know how nice it is :p:
