Anyone have any complaints about the RX7Store short shifter? I am thinking about going with that one since I need to order a few other things from there as well. Also, just to make certain, it does come with the replacement shifter bushing correct?

I bought one on ebay for $59.00 several months ago, it says it reduces shifter throw by 30% but seems like much more "It works great". http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...pagename=WDVW. I dont know who it is made by but quality is great. I only have about 100 miles on it because I am sourcing parts before hose replacment but I dont have any negative issues so far.

I've only posted once or twice before. . .but I'm now compelled. I read everything and finally got the Gotham short shifter. What a POS!! Of course I installed a new bushing (from Malloy. . .just have to plug them they are so wonderful), greased the ball, etc., and after the initial install, bent the tunnel and heat shield out of the way so that particular rattle dissappeared. Now I'm left with a shifter that vibrates and rattles so much (particularly while accelerating in 2nd and 3rd) that friends laugh when they ride in the car! I like the shorter shift, but not at any price (I have all the usual mods so it's not like I'm averse to a little noise or irritation. Anyway, it's coming out--Make me an offer if you are interested, Gotham won't even reply to my emails! Also, I hear Mazdaspeed may be a better choice. . .any advice is welcome. . .sorry for venting on here!

Request you read this before purchasing a new short shifter (just a friendly word of advice):

With that said, I have absolutely NO problems with mine rattling.

B&M here too...I love it...

I've read the info in that link before. The curious thing was that they apparently were never able to identify the actual source of the rattle [on the affected cars] .

1234rotor 10-21-04 10:21 PM

Yes, and I believe that the stock shifter on these cars did not rattle correct??

Only when a short shifter was installed would it show the character.

jmadams74 10-22-04 10:55 AM

Yes. There was no rattle from the stock shifter. I may decide to just disassemble the Gotham and find out what's going on in there. Someone must have done this before though?

jmadams74 10-22-04 08:33 PM

Quick update. . .I did hear from Gotham today and they indicate they have never heard of this problem. Recommended it try reinstalling (which I've done 3 times) and check for rubbing against the tunnel or something (which I have previously corrected). They say. "Try taking it out and installing it again. Then if it still does it we will see where it goes
from there." I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see what they say. . .

speaking of short shifter kits, are they any where you dont have to unbolt the 4 bolts from the base?

Yeah, just saw off the top half you don't want. You can make it as short as you want. Then buy and aftermarket shift knob and you're there dude. J/K

No, all "real" short throw kits replace the base and all. They make the whole shifting action less. If you cut it like cheap people do the throw will not decrease just the length of the stick.
