series 6 dash cluster into a series 8
just recently purchased a series 6 fd3s 300km/k dash cluster apart from the oil pressuregauge and not boost gauge should the rest work if i just plug it in

Based on my experience I've 'tried' to put on a Series 8 cluster into a Series 6 and when you put it in ignition the odometre comes up and everything but as soon as you start the engine it goes blank.
The fact that the tracks on the back of the cluster do not match the harness means that you will have problems and unless you modify these tracks then it will work. I suggest you take only the 300 km/h speedo out and transplant that into your existing gauge cluster and ditch the rest. |
Between 92 (series-6) & 99 (series-8) Mazda changed plenty in the wiring department. The plugs are the same for the instrument cluster but the "pin out" is changed to suit the S6-S7-S8 versions.
If you want to swap the speedo over only to swap out the 180km/h unit, then have a jeweller or instrument fitter remove the needle of the 300km/h speedo before dismantling it. If you try yourself, you have a 70% chance of ruining it as the tolerances in that needle shaft are so tiny its easy to warp it & destroy the gauge's operation. Once removed, the facing comes away so you can dismantle properly & swap everything over. REgards |
