In the price range from $800.00 to $1500.00
I just may have to order one of these bad mofo's:D

and if this is a repost my bad

ttpowerd Jun 28, 2002 10:36 AM

That is sweet! but the price is high for me right now. I want other things before that but it will definately go on the list :)

jspecracer7 Jun 28, 2002 10:36 AM

The exchange rate for today is Y118 to $1. That's pretty expensive, but I wonder if it would be worth it?

Crash Jun 28, 2002 10:39 AM

The only thing i really notice was that the lever was up so high looked like they used the shifter lever out of an F150 in that thing

ttpowerd Jun 28, 2002 10:40 AM

I noticed it set up high too. Who knows, at least they are trying, right? :p:

itrdanny2001 Jun 28, 2002 11:00 AM

i think that's pretty shady when a sequential shifter for an acura integra costs over $10,000. I would imagine this one isn't that great if they're offering it at less than $1500. Just my honest opinion.

The product mentioned is made by Ikeya Formula. It is basically a shifter which utilizes your stock transmission (hence ONLY a $1500 price tag) versus a TRUE sequential shifter (including tranmission) which can cost several thousand. So it is NOT shady.

I like my clutch just fine, thank you very much :)

But I bet your syncros hate you :p:

I posted a pic of a shifter like that in an FD. It looked.....kinda funny.

itrdanny2001 Jun 28, 2002 12:22 PM

Damn, I was just saying that I think it's shady, meaning that it will not offer the same performance as a "run of the mill" sequential shifter.

Why does everyone have to be so condescending on this board?

I must be getting old and out dated then (at 24?) since I'm not "down w/ the lingo".

Who else knew what "shady" meant? I didn't!

Hyperite Jun 28, 2002 12:41 PM

Yeah, i thought he meant shady like "they're not gonna give you that shifter for that cheap" or "that thing is a piece of crap". And I'm 21 for the record.

Re: sEQUENTIAL SHIFTER!!!

i have talked to several people in Japan (Americans)about this shifter before. Yes it does look intimidating and sick, and most of all eye catching.
But this is what they have to say about that shifter:

--The shifter mechanism which Ikeya Formula uses is extremely fragile, which means it very prone to breaking/mal function due to "agressive" shifting.

--Like someone on the above said, your synchros will hate you! And he's right on the money on that one. It will destroy your synchros and sometimes the whole tranny (sometimes to an unrebuildable state). Thats how bad this thing can get. Now i dont know about the "unrebuildable" part. But it sure does sound scary.

--And they said that the shifter shifts like shit. You can seriously shift much much faster with your stock shifter. So that pretty much shows how worhtless that thing is.

But then again, for the price you're paying for it. you cant really complain especially you get to shift like you "have a sequential tranny". I love that motion of shifting myself.

You make the call. You have the money to waste, then get it and tell us how it really works. :p:

neo_omega Jun 28, 2002 01:11 PM

you still need to step on the clutch to shift. It's not a clutchless shifter.

Crash Jun 28, 2002 05:25 PM

Flybye I remeber the pic your talking about it was the one wear they put a moo moo over the shift mechnism.

itrdanny2001 Jun 28, 2002 06:14 PM

sorry guys, maybe shady wasn't the correct word to use, espeically since most people use it to describe a scammer.

my mistake.

how about this: it sounds a bit "too good to be true". and based on what tofu said, I would stay far, far away from it. later.

That shifter has been out for the FD for quite a few months.. Maybe even longer. Here is the IKEYA web pagem they are the ones that make that shifter and it will give you lots of great info if your interested....

Function and appearance are often two completely separate things. It puts the shift knob just to the left (or right) of the steering wheel so that the driver doesn't have to move his hand very far to shift. It allows a very short hand movement forward or back to drop or upshift a gear, and it eliminates the chance of shifting from 2nd to 5th. What more do you want?

Of course it's ugly. Where else are you going to hide the mechanism? There's no room in the transmission tunnel. It's as ugly as a race car with a stripped interior, in which case it'd blend right in. It wasn't intended for street driving. Get yourself a chrome knob and red-stitched shifter boot if you want to pimp.

If you were a competitive driver, you might appreciate it more. For $1,500, it's about $4,500 less than one of the cheapest sequential transmissions that eliminate the clutch for all but taking off in first gear, and it allows quick and precise shifting of a standard transmission. If you don't like it, don't buy it. :)

This product will not work w/ US cars because of the LHD issue. The product is made for RHD cars. You can however, have custom lines made to accomodate this product.

A friend of mine drove the 5Zigen RSX while it was here in the US and he said it was not a good idea for the street.
