Sequential... I thought I had it figured out

Right when you think you have a good grasp on everything.
I am prepping my Apexi boost control solenoid for the pfc and realized something was missing on the car. Low and behold I find my pre control and wastegate solenoid missing......
So this whole time breaking in the car it was not running with a solenoid, yet still has a dipping transition... a little violent, but it is still there. I thought without the damn solenoid it wouldn't work. So I assume it enables you to control when the transition occurs?.... now I just have to figure out how to plug it back in...... I WILL FINISH THIS SOME DAY!!!!

Those solenoids regulate the actual boost, not the transition. Each one is tied to one of the two large actuators on the turbos. By default they will open around 7 psi off the spring pressure.

^Yep. All they do is up the boost. With them not there/not working you'll have 7psi. With them working you'll have 10psi.

I re read everything on how the system works. So the pre controller is just for spooling the secondary (which I already knew). For some reason I had insane idea it actually allowed the 2nd turbo to transition.
Now from what I understand the the non white dot is the pre controller (white dot being the wastegate)

What I need to figure out is which hose to hook the damn thing up too. I will finish this project!!!

What is the aqua colored line? It isn't boost.

XanderCage 08-24-20 08:02 PM

The aqua line is filtered air (of ambient pressure) taken from right before the primary turbo inlet. It routes up to the distribution block, then it's branched off to the two oil injectors as well as the wastegate and precontrol solenoids.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification. So I just need to hook up a line to the pre control actuator to the top nipple on solenoid and I could just vent the bottom nipple. That makes no sense to me, but I guess that doesn't matter much. I will call it "pfm". I could try to trace the line that "he" ran from the filtered intake and see wtf he has it connected to I guess.
The other nipple on the actuator itself will stay hooked up to the boost source from the compressor and then just plug it back in.
Then my apexi boost solenoid I will just splice into the boost source and wastegate control actuator and cap the other nipple on that.
I should in theory be ready to rock with the pfc controlling the boost.... in theory.

If your car doesn't have one, a good vac/boost gauge would be a big help in identifying boost problems.

I have a gauge and the commander which match up perfectly for boost and an aem afr gauge. I just need to see how to hook this damn solenoid up again. I put my hi flow cat back on (off with the midpipe). I see no boost control issues in the very near future.... just want my transition to properly working.

It's runningrung the spring now but is approaching 9psi. The 3kai turbos have a slightly heavier spring. Bigger wastegate also, but I am sure she is creeping a tiny bit. Which is why I took off the midpipe.

Not quite. The pre-control controls primary boost. It pre-spools the secondary as an added function, not as it's sole function. Under primary mode the WG is closed and the PC has a duty cycle. Any exhaust the PC vents goes tho the secondary turbine to prespool it.

Then after transition your PC goes wide open and your WG is duty cycled to control combined boost.

Only downside to leaving the vent nipple open to atmosphere is an insect could make a nest in it. We have bugs here in the mid-atlantic that love to do that kind of crap.

So you're going to control the precontrol with the PFC and wastegate with the apexi boost control kit? Is that a thing? Seems unnecessarily complicated when you can just use the stock solenoids. Just wondering...

Good point on the bugs I guess. It is garaged, but I probably should filter it. As for the Apexi.... yes it is a "thing" I guess. It is a lot more heavy duty than the stock solenoid and supposedly can handle more pressure and is more more accurate.... truth to all that? No idea... for sure more heavy duty, but not sure if that makes a difference.
