Separating Oil Cooler Lines
 

I'm quite embarrassed to be asking this and I did search but did not really find a good visual of what I was looking for.

Basically...on a touring model I've removed the driver side oil cooler and disconnected the lines from it. Where the lines are held together, I removed the metal c-clip from the frame but the lines still seem to be held in place by a bracket. What am I not doing correctly or missing? Photos would be helpful.

Bracket should come off. I think a 10mm bolt holds it to the frame. In order to separate these two lines you will need to disconnect the Banjo bolt on the Engine and pull the C-Clip off the line from Oil Filter. Then you can take the hole Oil Cooler line assembly off the car. To separate the two you will need to destroy the clip the pull the lines apart.

I can take a picture of my lines as they lay in my garage if you like.

Ahhhh! I believe you just solved the mystery for me potentially. So based on my understanding of what you said, one of the following is the "correct" procedure:

1) Destroy the clip/metal piece to separate the lines.

or

2) Remove them from the engine from the engine side and keep them stuck together?

If I'm misunderstanding, clarification would be greatly appreciated!

No Need to destroy anything. Take a look at the below picture. You actually dont even need to remove the banjo bolt from the engine. Both the feed and return line have a Hexagonal like connection with the two pipes that head directly to the cooler. If you take the undertray off and the Brake duct tray off you will have complete view of the the line as it heads into the cooler. From here you simply need to get to the line and pop the C-Clips off the connector and pull them apart. I did this in conjunction with swapping out my radiator, so I had PLENTY of room to do this. You may have to fight for space, but once the c-clips are off, simply remove the bracket and do as you see fit.

I guess what I am saying is, just disconnect the two lines and take them off the car and figure out what you want to do with the clip. Dont try to mangle it while it is on the car as bad things only happen by cutting corners.

The picture shows the line that used to be connected with the banjo bolt separated from the engine along with both oil lines separated from the connectors. (the line from the Oil Filer is still used in my car with the Dual Setup I just put in)
