Separate oil reservoir for oil metering pump?
Has anyone used one of these?
http://www.rotaryaviation.com/oil_in...p_adaptors.htm I'm seriously considering it for my Pineapple rebuild that is now in progress. I really like the idea of being able to run synthetic in the motor as well as injecting a clean burning ashless two cycle oil. |
Garfinkle has a tank he made for 2 cycle oil to the OMP ,he uses Amsoil brand. 19000 miles and all is well. If the eletronic OMP goes bad a mechanical pump will go in.
|
The change is not a stright bolt on with the stock turbos. The omp needs to be modified for the wires to be away from the hot turbos.
|
Thanks guy ... do you remember what was done to the pump? I wish that I had thought of this before I sent the motor to Pineapple. I.E. was the mod simple or a major redesign?
Hmm ... maybe I'll PM Garfinkle with this thread. |
i'd like to see an installed pic

i was considering this when i was in the process of going haltech to use a mechanical OMP from a 88 n/a. this is definatly not a bolt on for 3rd gens though you will need to retro fit. good luck with your project. ;)

Why can't we just use 2-stroke oil instead of 4-stroke?
Is it too thick for the metering pump? Will it not cool the engine like regular oil? The 2-stroke regular has detergents, if it's the race version we can't use. |
The 2 cycle oil in the oil pan may not be a good idea . Two cycle oil is made to burn clean and 4 cycle oil is made to not burn but be scraped from the surface. Two cycle oil is not thick , so it will go through the the pump fine . A two cycle engine will have roller bearing rod ends and the loading is way less than the insert bearings .I can tell you better then I can write it out ,sorry The rotory also has insert bearings that need the load bearing oil. The rotor chamber need lube not load bearing oil .
|
^ uhm, so parts of the engine needs oil that sticks to the walls? ...and 2-stroke won't do that?
|
Two cycle oil will lube the rotor housing and apex seals and the side iron parts you need 4 cycle oil on the crank bearing and rotor bearings and gears . where the loading is .The oil injected in to the chamber does its lube job and is burned off ,if not the chamber would fill with oil, correct, but it does not ,the oil burns so put oil in there that will lube the best and burn the cleanest.
