sell or keep 93 rx7 w/136,000miles
I have motego blue 93 rx7 with 136000miles on its chase. Its about time for me to start on getting rebuilt motor, turbos, tranny one by one.
My question is, is it worth it for me to spend money on the car which has 136000miles? Mechanically, and cosmetically it still looks clean and in good condtion. I'm just worry about rebuilding all those major parts and turns out to have much more problems later on. So what do you all think? keep it? or sell it and get the one with lower miles?:( |
keep it and rebuild it

um..if you like your car, you will do anything. i will keep it.

Sorry,
If you start to feel like that, I'd say sell it to other who can do the job himself. Say, you get those stuff rebuilt. Cost more than 7K. After finishing, you found more problems, like sus or brake. More money. then, you ran into financial problem and relucant to sell it, but can't get 12K for it. Or, you sell the car for 10k and keep those rebuilding cost of 7 k and find a good lower miledge from forum member in the area for 17K. or do whatever you'd like with 17K. Just an opinion from my bad financial situation. POM HB |
So, for those of you who said to keep it belive the chase will last at least 250,000miles? Im just worried about it as a whole. If its gonna last for another 10yrs lol then I'll keep it and enjoy my car.

i totally agree with mahjik! i would say the only other problem you might find for sure would be your suspension's bushings and dust boots...all that is cheap to fix....just pull the suspension pieces yourself and have new bushings pressed in then reinstall them...new bushings are cheap....KEEP YOUR CAR !!! haha well have fun with her

that makes sense. I was just feeling bad the fact the my odo was just adding up n up...but I guess it wont matter if I keep the car for life

(yea he's on engine # 5 or 6 i believe, but she's still runnin strong!) |
if you gotta ask, sell it. you gotta pay to play...

I've got 335,000km's on mine. Third motor, second gearbox, retrimmed steering wheel and driver's seat, plastic bits in engine bay getting brittle (most engine harness plugs replaced).
With new paint, looks a million dollars and people don't believe me when I tell them the mileage... Keep or sell- there is good advice in terms of total outlay. I happened to get mine cheaply as an insurance repossession and even after all the work was cheaper then buying one (they're expensive down under). Of course the thousand hours of work I put into it doesn't count... If you can sell the current one for good money and buy a lower mileage/rebuilt one for a little bit more then that may be a sensible option. I find it best not to get too attached to a particular car...:D |
if you really love the car, id say keep it, store it while you fix it little by little and get a commuter car to get your around..
i, thank god, dont have that prob yet but even though, i have a commuter car so my fd doesnt get driven for more than 3 days a week..if i was in your situation, i would store it while saving up and rebuilding/replacing things little at a time while using your commuter beater car.. just my opinion |
