Saving money on FD insurance.
Hi All,
Just wanted you to know that i just saved myself $70 a month off my insurace. This may be stail news for some of you but I'm tickled pink... If you have at least 2 cars and put little miles on your car then you can qualify to save....I am paying full coverage with all the bells and whistles for a 1999 Altima and a 94 FD...Monthly breakdown was $169 per month...Now I will be paying $99.... :fruit: I think it will vary from insurance companies how many miles you will have to put on the FD for it to qualify for this discount. I don't even know how much State Farm is but I just told them I put 5500 miles on my FD in 2 years and they changed it in their database. All they did was ask how many miles was on the OD and that was it....So anyway, check on that if you haven't...Put that money in to MODS :D |
I did the same thing when I bought my 87 gxl. It's ridiculous paying the same amount for liability on an 87 as you are paying for full coverage on a 93. My monthly bill is around $60 for each car.
|
Screw you all! I live in Massachusetts, and our insurance rates SUCK!. I pay $2400 a year for full coverage on the FD, with a perfect driving record. And non of the good insurance comapanies (State Farm included) offer coverage in Mass, cus this state sucks.
I can't wait til I get out of school so I can move outta this hell hole.. I mean.. good for you Apnea. |
Want an even better rate? Marry an insurance agent :) You get discounts you don't even know exist.

a 6 month policy on a 99 escort and 93 FD = 1680
303 a month!!! |
Yeah, I put my '82 Chevy van on as my primary vehicle, and my total insurance bill was less with the two vehicles than with the FD alone.
33 yrs old, liability, damage, and underinsured at $100,000 each vehicle, $300,000 each accident, comprehensive and collision, with $100 deductable on the collision, tow coverage ($50 each occurance), similar coverage on the van without the collision or comp ('cause why the hell WOULD I!!??) comes to $685 per 6 months. I'm overinsured (Allstate), but well protected in case of need ;) |
I dont wanna hear any kind of whining. I have a decent driving record (1 ticket in 4 yrs that went on record, 2 NOT at fault accidents, and no other claims) and I pay like $2200 every six months. That is like half of what Geico quoted me, and Farmers wouldnt even insure a moded fd to somebody as young as me. Most of the quotes I got were around $3600. I wish I could get down to under 200 a month for insurance, then my car would really be bling bling.
|
My limits are significantly above the state minimums because I would rather be safe than sorry, but lowering to the minimums would only save me like thirty a month I think.

I was just thinking about doing this. I told State Farm this last year when I bought the car, but I am still paying more a year on the FD than I am my 2004 Grand Am GT. That makes no sense. I put 1500 miles on my car in the last year hahahaha

I still pay less than that:D Multi car, multi-line, defensive driving, accident free, over 25, married, less than 7k mi/yr.
Anyone tried to get classic insurance on an FD. Looks like Grundy would accept an application for a '93 on their web site. |
wow i really hate you guys then
i am paying 4500 a year full coverage for my fd and im 21 years old.. but i live in new jersey :( |
Yep, apneablue. State Farm is the place. That's who I use. Become an old fart like me and they'll drop it to the $60/mo range.
Maybe I'm helping to drive down the State Farm rates for everyone. Haven't wrecked mine yet:p: Nobody apply to State Farm unless you have a perfect driving record:D Wonder how long this thread will run before a mod locks it;) |
Hey ulost2my7, I still pay more than you since my figures were for six months, but you made me feel a bit better though.
|
Ok how about ME!! I live in Dade County the MOST EXPENSIVE COUNTY FOR INSURANCE yet with a few tricks I got the payment to 100$ a month =P
If not it would have been 400$ a month!!!! Are they INSANE! Also thats with my dad being with State Farm for the Past 20 years. |
So what insurance company are you with, apneablue?
|
Damn, people! I'm only 22 and I pay around $700/6 months for a '93 with collision, comp, etc. I still think THAT is high.
|
$700 / year for my FD. Liability Only.
yea i know should get full coverage but then it jumps to like $2300+ I live in NJ. btw I have USAA. Only for Military Officers and contracted officer canidates. |
sorry rxseven1, usaa is for any ACTIVE DUTY military and their dependents. Most of their customers are enlisted :) They do give cheaper rates the higher your rank though.

I guess that is pretty low and I am similar to rotary-tt's range. I have all the same credentials minus marriage, but am 27yrs old. |

So,
The conclusion is Tell the agent that FD is rarely driven? You have more than one car? The FD is NOT primary vihicle? I can' t follow that well here. POM HB |

POM HB Yes, you have to have another car as that car will be placed as your Primary Vehicle and your FD as your "Pleasure Vehicle". They check once a year on your odometer reading and that's it. Not all car insurance companies have plans like these so you need to check with your agent. |
Thanks, Mahjik! You're da man. I'm your secret admirer. :D
