sandwich plate leak

got a leak under my sandwich plate, the thing is i have tightened it down as hard as i could+ there was some kinda gasket underneath. how would u guys secure it?

Considering I've never seen Mazda use a reference to "sandwich" in their FSM, you'll have to be more descriptive as to what you mean by "sandwich plate". Pictures would help.

you talking about the oil filter base? If so there are two o-rings under there...

sickboy2345 08-09-08 12:17 PM

sorry i should have said..yes oil filter sandwich plate, basically just taken my car from mazda and they told me about it, there is o-ring underneath but the guy said that my car was spraying oil from underneath the sadwich plate...

would some loctite help?(the one u use instead of gasket)

Mahjik 08-09-08 01:03 PM

No loctite. There are two o-rings. The oil filter pedestal is held down by two nuts. Undo the oil cooler line, then undo the two nuts. The pedestal will come off. Replace the o-rings and re-install. I usually use a little RTV to hold the o-rings in place for the install.

are you talking about the factory pedestal, or an aftermarket plate that sits on top of the stock pedestal? if its the aftermarket plate there is supposed to be a gasket/oring under it.

sickboy2345 08-10-08 10:05 AM

no im talking about aftermarket plate, it leaks from under it, not from my factory pedestal...

Get rid of the aftermarket plate - it's most likely just going to continue to give you trouble.

If you have a sensor in there for an oil pressure or temp gauge, find a new home for it. One trick is to drill/tap a 1/8" NPT hole on top of the banjo bolt for the oil cooler line right there. Real slick installation.
